DVD player recorder won't read or play any disc

The DUAL DVR-W5002 is a dual layer DVD recorder, which means you can record data onto two layers of a DVD disc. To finalize a disc on this device, you'll need to follow these steps:

1. Make sure the disc is loaded and ready for recording.
2. Press the "Record" button to enter the recording menu.
3. Select the option to "Finalize" the disc. This option is usually found under the "Disc" or "Setup" menu.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to finalize the disc. This process may take a few minutes to complete.
5. Once the finalization process is complete, the disc should be readable on other DVD players.

Note: Finalizing a disc makes it readable on other DVD players, but it also makes it permanent and prevents further recording on the disc. Before finalizing a disc, make sure that you have recorded all the necessary data and that you won't need to add any more files to the disc in the future.

Dual-layer recording (sometimes also known as double-layer recording) allows DVD-R and DVD+R discs to store significantly more data-up to 8.54 gigabytes per disc, compared with 4.7 gigabytes for single-layer discs. Along with this, DVD-DLs have slower write speeds as compared to ordinary DVDs and when played on a DVD player a slight transition can sometimes be seen between the layers. A dual-layer disc differs from its usual DVD counterpart by employing a second physical layer within the disc itself. The drive with dual-layer capability accesses the second layer by shining the laser through the first semitransparent layer. In some DVD players, the layer change can exhibit a noticeable pause, up to several seconds.[24] This caused some viewers to worry that their dual-layer discs were damaged or defective, with the end result that studios began listing a standard message explaining the dual-layer pausing effect on all dual-layer disc packaging.
DVD recordable discs supporting this technology are backward-compatible with some existing DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.[23] Many current DVD recorders support dual-layer technology, and the price is now comparable to that of single-layer drives, although the blank media remain more expensive. The recording speeds reached by dual-layer media are still well below those of single-layer media.
There are two modes for dual-layer orientation. With Parallel Track Path (PTP), used on DVD-ROM, both layers start at the inside diameter (ID) and end at the outside diameter (OD) with the lead-out. With Opposite Track Path (OTP), used on many Digital Video Discs, the lower layer starts at the ID and the upper layer starts at the OD, where the other layer ends; they share one lead-in and one lead-out.

It depends upon what type of data you want to copy onto a CD or DVD.
If you want to copy and play music in a CD player then it needs to be on a CD disc.
If you want to copy and play movie DVDs in a DVD player then it needs to be on a DVD disc.
If you want to backup data files then it can be on either CD or DVD discs (depending upon the amount of data to be stored on the disc - CD holds 700 Mb, single layer DVD holds 4.7 Gb, and dual layer DVD holds 8.5 Gb of data).
A DVD player can read both CDs and DVDs, but a CD player cannot read DVD discs.

Everything is the same except you have to choose "DVD-R 9.0G" at the bottom of the DVD maker window. R4.5G is single layer and 9.0G is dual layer.

DVD stands for Digital Versatile/Video Disc, DVDR stands for DVD Recordable and DVDRW for DVD ReWriteable. If you're familiar with regular audio/music CDs or regular DVD-Video discs, then you will know what a recordable DVD looks like. A recordable DVD stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video, including several audio tracks in formats like stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS and also advanced menu systems, subtitles and still pictures that can be played by many standalone DVD Players and most computer DVD-ROMs. If you choose to lower the video quality it is possible to store several hours video on a recordable DVD using low bitrates and low resolution with video quality more like VHS, SVHS, SVCD, CVD or VCD. It is also possible to have up to 4.37* GB ordinary data or mix DVD-Video and data on a recordable DVD that can be played by most computer DVD-ROMs.

There are three competing DVD Recording standards, DVD-R/DVD-RW and DVD+R/DVD+RW have pretty similiar features and are compatible with many standalone DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs while DVD-RAM has less DVD Player and DVD-ROM compatibility but better recording features.

DVD-R was the first DVD recording format released that was compatible with standalone DVD Players.
DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 93% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-RW is a rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 80% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-R and DVD-RW supports single side 4.37 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double sided 8.75 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by DVDForum.

DVD+R and DVD+RW
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 89% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.

DVD+R DL
DVD+R DL or called DVD+R9 is a Dual Layer writeable DVD+R. The dual layered discs can hold 7.95 computer GB* (called DVD-9) and dual layered double sides 15.9* computer GB (called dvd-18).

DVD-R DL or called DVD-R9 is a Dual Layer writeable DVD-R. The dual layered discs can hold 7.95 computer GB* (called DVD-9) and dual layered double sides 15.9* computer GB (called dvd-18).

If your dvdrom supports dvdrw I would suggest buying these disks as you can re-write over them if you need too.
Most recent dvdroms support all of the above.

I would say that as with many manufacturers, the Bose 3-2-1 is meant to play Dual Layer DVDs. Since they hold data on 2 separate layers of the disc, these hold twice the amount of data than the Dvd+r or -r that you're using. When the Bose system tries to read the 2 layers and only finds one it, will not recognize the dvd. If you don't have a Dual-Layer burner and Dual Layer discs to burn to, you should upgrade your burning equipment. They're not that expensive these days. Cheers!

Did you glance in the manual to see what types of DVD it would play (typ. DVD-9, DVD-4, etc.) and try it?  This site can't prevent you reading appropriate manuals, you know.

I have fixed mine with the same problem , all it needed was the lens cleaned , i used a laser lens cleaning disc from maplin for 6.99 and voila good as new.

A Dual Layered (DVD-R DL) disc has two recording layers on the same side of the disc. No recording is made on the 'other' side of the disc.

Finalising the disc will finalise both layers. Most probably your computer DVD drive cannot read both layers of the DVD-R DL disc. DVD-R DL discs can only be played back on DVD devices that are compatible with dual layered discs.

Check your computer DVD drive spec to see whether it can read DL discs.

Its probably compabitilities issues. Try -rs. There a lot better since they are more known type and technology. the difference is +r have more editing features but in your case it doesn't matter because your just copying.
