SOURCE: toshiba satellite fn key display problem

Just download this :) It will fix your problem. If it doesn't work, just search for Toshiba Value Added Package Vista/XP (that depends on what Operative System you've got) and download for your Operative System.

Is there a problem with the battery not accepting a charge?
Remove the battery, to see if the computer will start without it.

Do these 2 lights just "blink" once, and then go out?

Does a "power" button stay lit?

I would like to boot a toshiba satellite m105-s30401 with an external monitor as the laptop screen is busted and i would like to use an external monitor until i get a replacement screen, how do i get

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Toshiba satellite l655-s5058

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF.

2) Connect the VGA cable of the VGA monitor, to the VGA port on the Left side/Rear of the laptop.

You can use a CRT monitor (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor with a VGA cable. (Or DVI to VGA adapter on the cable)

3) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By default the display should show up on the external VGA monitor.
If not,

Press the Fn key down, and hold it down. At the same time tap once on the F5 key.

No display? Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F5 key.
There are at least 3 options available;

1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Connect laptop to external lcd monitor

This laptop has a blue VGA port. Plug your monitor into it. You might have to adjust the BIOS to recognize the external device.
Once connected, your laptop may automatically switch to the new external display or you may be required to press a sequence of keys in order to switch from the laptop to the external display. The key sequence can vary depending on laptop, however is often either: Fn + F3, F4, F5,F8, or F9. This means if you were fore example to press and hold Fn + F3 at the same time it'd switch between your laptop display to your external display. The function key will often be labeled as CRT/LCD and/or have a picture of a monitor on the key or close to the key. Unfortunately, the keys pressed to switch displays is dependent on the model and manufacturer of the laptop. If none of the above key sequences work, consult your laptop documentation or consult your laptop manufacturer.
Some laptops also have the ability to have the display on both the laptop and external display and/or one or the other at a single time. Laptops with this ability can switch between these modes by continuing to press the same function keys until in the mode the user wants.

Hello My Toshiba Satellite a75 s229 Notebook Screen is Black and Glass inside screen looks cracked. Laptop fell 3'' ft. off table onto carpeted floor. Laptop powers up fine and I can hear windows start up...

Hi there,

The way to find out if it's just the screen is to connect the laptop to an external monitor. Pay attention to the F keys when you connect the laptop. On most Toshibas, you'll see a small depiction on the F5 key of a laptop next to a monitor. You either have to press that key alone, or hold down the fn key and then press the F5 key and let go to transfer the signal to the external monitor.

If the external monitor shows up good and you can perform all other functions on your laptop while viewing the monitor, you need only replace the laptop LCD. If it does not display correctly, then you're into the next round of troubleshooting.

Hope it works as above.

Good Luck

Mouse pad cursor doesn't work

try using the FN key with the monitor/VGA output selection changer(usually F5). You will see a little icon that looks like two monitors. Mouse control may have been changed to the external monitor connection. See if pressing FN(function) and holding that key and then pressing the monitor key will bring back your mouse indicator. You may need to do it with the projector connected and on.

Connecting Toshiba Lap Top to NEC LCD TV

From user manual (page 68):
Your computer comes with a built-in display panel, but you can also
connect an external display device to an available video port, as
follows:
❖ An external monitor or projector via the RGB (monitor) port
❖ A TV, VCR, or DVD recorder via the S-video (TV-out) port
Before connecting an external monitor or video projector, configure
your computer for the type of device you are connecting. To do this,
refer to the documentation for your operating system and devices

So you have to use an RGB cable or a S-video cable : your cable should be plugged into 15 pin VGA port in your PC and plug it into a correspondent port in your TV.
Try also S- video and select correponding input in your TV set (Both connection type DO NOT carry sound: use your audio connector from PC to TV audio input.)
Configure your extended screen using your manual instruction:
Once you have connected an external display device, you can
choose to use the internal display only, the external device only, or
both simultaneously. The quickest way to change the display output
settings is to use the display hot key (Fn + F5):
1 Press Fn and F5 simultaneously.
2 While holding down Fn, press F5 repeatedly until the setting
you want takes effect. Briefly pause each time you press the F5
key to allow time for the display to change.
This hot key cycles through the settings in the following order:
❖ Built-in display only
❖ Built-in display and external monitor simultaneously
❖ External monitor only
❖ Built-in display and TV
❖ TV only

Brand new Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5868 laptop display screen has gone black, even though the computer is on.

Since your laptop is brand new , you may not be familure with it's function keys , FN

Sometimes the users accidentaly presses the FN and the F5 monitor function key at the same time.
which effectively turns the notebooks display off.

D in the image below is the FN function key
and the monitor function key could be F5 , it will have a little monitor symbol on it.

When they are pressed together it will turn the notebooks display off and enable any VGA monitor connected to it's VGA ports. when pressed again , they will turn of the VGA port and turn on the notebooks display.
