Literally working one moment and the next time I went to turn it on NOTHING!!!! On vacation in Hawaii this starts, none the less. Looking at this site, I am not alone...any solutions.

  • astridhauser May 03, 2009

Yep just used it the day before and NOTHING the next day. Any idea how to fix this?

  • fotorunner May 08, 2009

Same problem. No power. I got the camera to work briefly by rapping the body against the palm of my hand, but now appears to be dead for good. I had the camera just over a year. Canon has been slowly losing me as a customer. I'm thinking about selling all my Canon gear and returning back to Nikon.

Although battery is charged, my camera doesn't power up. It's now one year old and I was very happy with it until now. I don't even know where to start to look at the problem...

my g9 all of a sudden wouldnt power up. i sent it for repair at colchester camera, they say the dc/dc has been repaired but its still exactly the same and wont poer up, i have tried 2 fully charged batteries, and nothing works

  • twixp May 21, 2009

I turned my G9 powershot off for a couple mins, tried to turn it on again and, nothing. Like everyone else, I thought it was the battery but it was not. The camera is 13 months old so just outside the warranty! This seems to be a very familiar story. I would expect better from Canon. They have told me I have to pay for repairs but when I complained they have put it to head office, so we will see. It would certainly put me off buying Canon again.

Camera probably has loose screws inside that shorted it out. Try this site: www.camerasandparts.com They only work on the Powershots and they are excellent for help with these. The problem is usually that two screws inside come loose and short out the camera. The nice thing with Cameras and Parts is they do some fix to those internal screws so the problem doesn't re-occur. Plus they service up the whole camera with shipping back included for $89 all in. Not a bad deal, they do very professional work on these cameras. All the best to everyone dealing with this Canon G9 no power problem.

Ok guys this a great site my first port of call when the same thing happened to mine , but sometimes you can get bad info from people like the solution of putting tooth pick in battery compartment any way tried that nearly did more damage emailed canon and i wasnt polite not expecting a response but got one, a very nice person said send my camera to see what was wrong and at their discretion may waive charge as long as its not my fault {see what i mean about tooth pick]it was only 6 weeks out of warranty i looked at repair sheet and she did say this on her first email that loading your photos on to computer from camera is bad for camera and hey presto two weeks later the repair sheet said pc had blown a circuit in camera ,, solution after repair is a 10 pound card reader but i can honestly say that after saying i would not buy another canon now i would not buy any other, the honesty with a big company like canon surprised me, and the back up service in my opinion is second to none and from what ive been told the repair comes with full six month warranty and would not have been the 3 figure sum i read it would be. i hope this helps but dont try the battery compartment fix if you intend to send it to canon which i highly reccomend as this g9 camera is realy worth the time and money

Hi all, I had the same problem, I was frustated, in one more week my G9 will be 1 year old, so what I did and fixed it was to take a pencil, and write on the Battery contacts in circular pattern, the pencil will act like a fine sand paper, after 20 seconds per contact (battery has 3 contacts, but you knew that), I used the Eraser from the pencil and clean the connectros from the battery, OK that is the battery part, the next part is inside the battery slot on the camera, take an small screwdriver and pull a little the contacts from the camera, this will make the contacts to rise a little more. This will help so can get better contact with the battery. Now take the Eraser and clean those contacts, be sure to not leave any residue from the eraser, an PRESTO! Just put the fully charged battery inside and try again, for me it fixed it!! I really hope it works for you also, this is a GREAT CAMERA. In three more days I will have a party and I will use it as always! This saved me like 60 Dlls!! This is my e-mail if something was not clear! [email protected]

I finally got mine repaired, luckily it was within the year, its definately a design fault from canon and they should replace peoples cameras and not expect us to pay for repairs, it seems from what i have read that they last about a year before dying, so i am concerned this repair will only last one more year, then bang goes £400 that i spent to buy it originally

I turned my Cannon G9 camera on and 'lens error. restart camera' is the message I see. The lens will not retract and the camera does not function at all except for the message and the opening...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

CAMERA WILL NOT SWITCH ON. THE POWER BUTTON SEEMS STUCK AT BOTTOM, WITH OR WITHOUT CHARGE

The Canon G9 has a design defect, two screws fall out inside the camera and short out the fuse. If you've never had it fixed for no power before this is most likely what has happened to your camera.

Do a Google search for "canon g9 no power repair" and you will see a full repair service including return shipping of your camera for just $85.

Suddenly my G9 won`t start at all. Battery is fully charged

More than likely, your camera has a short from some loose screws inside. A lot of these G9's get this problem.
You get it fixed, it's $89 all in at: www.CamerasAndParts.com
The great thing with that site is they just service the Canon Powershots exclusively and they totally know these cameras. They include the parts, the labor, the service for the camera, the no power correction included, and even the shipping back. It costs $89 for everything with them and they do excellent work on the Powershots.
Good luck with it. If you need help with a Powershot, they're the place for one of these models!

My Canon Powershot G9 suddenly stopped working yesterday. It's just stuck with the lens extended. I've checked and the battery is OK. Nothing's working..no LCD screen, won't switch on or off etc.

This is a really common problem on the G7 and the G9. They get no power all of a sudden when two screws from inside the camera get loose and cause a short. It's not a cleaning as was suggested, your camera actually needs to be repaired. There's a great shop that only specializes in service for the the Canon Powershot cameras and they have this exact fix on their site. They charge $89 for everything. That takes care of parts, labor, the services for the G9, return shipping and they give you a pretty good warranty on the whole camera once it's been serviced. The cool thing with them is they do the correction to the two screws inside the G7's and the G9's that causes this no power problem. Here is the site where you can have it serviced: www.camerasandparts.com Everything comes out to $89 and they are awesome for service on the Canon Powershots. I hope this helps, all the best with it.

My cannon g9 camera stopped working. the lens is stuck open and it won't turn on. Any suggestions?

Common no power problem on the G9, you just need to get it serviced. There's a great site that only services the Powershots, they're amazing when it comes to servicing these models. On the G9, they do a fix in the camera so the short never happens again which is great, plus they service up the rest of the camera. They don't charge much and they're amazing if you need help with a Powershot. Try them, their site is: camerasandparts.com Good luck, that's the best place if you need help with a Powershot problem.

No power?

You just need to have the camera serviced for this no power problem. This is common on the G9 but there's a correction that can be done so this problem never happens again. It has to do with two loose screws in the camera that can result in a short and no power on the G7 and the G9 cameras. If you go to: www.camerasandparts.com they specialize in Service for the Canon Powershots and they are amazing if you need service for one of these. They actually have this exact fix available on their site for your model so you can get it taken care of for very little and have the camera serviced up completely at the same time. Try that site, that's where a lot of people go for help with the Powershots, good luck with it.

Our cannon powershot g9 camera is 1 year old. It will not turn on

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

Computer no longer recognizes my G9

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

i have the same camera but i want to use it like a webcam.
I found a driver that is located in the canon homepage, called "canon RAW codec"(compatible with Vista and XP), and it allows you to download the photos of the camera and to take fotos instantly, but it don't suport the webcam function...  :(  . I'm using it in windows XP.

That's all, Ithink that it must work for all the users.

I lost my Cannon Powershot G6 and want to replace it. would you recommend G9 or G10? Or is similarly priced Nikon better solution? I have lenses and adapters for G6. Are they compatible with the...

Considering you've become familiar with the Cannon, I would stick with that. With different cameras come different problems. Probably best to stick with what you know. I would recommend the G10. It was the most amazing camera I've ever messed with. Though, most of your G6 lenses and adapters should be compatible with G9, but doubtfully the G10.
Still need help? Let me know!
