Hello, Jean Pierre...
Yours looks like a "common" CD/DVD Player? Your question specifies "Sony", but that number is also good for a "LiteOn" Drive?
Can you PLEASE tell us the SYSTEM MFG and MODEL this drive belongs to?
MOST photos show a Drive that fits a 'standard' drive slot in a PC? A FEW other photos show a thin LAPTOP configuration?
I tried to find a manual for you to discover if it's a IDE or a newer SATA but I had little luck and many dead ends.
LOOK at the connectors on the back of your Drive... TRY to find a NEW/Faster replacement with the SAME connectors!
USE CAUTION! If yours is a IDE type you MAY need to move a tiny plastic JUMPER to "SLAVE"?

You got a bad laser in the drive not the laser the reads the laser that writes and this does generally happen when a dvd ram drive goes. Recommend buying a new drive as a replacment laser is upwards of $90 bucks, thanks for using fixya please do accept and rate.
