Panasonic Viera TV with black band on left hand side

My Panasonic TV model TH42PX60B (purchased June 2007) has recently acquired a black band about 5cm wide on the left hand side (only) of the screen. This is present no matter what the input (DVB, HDMI, AV) and aspect ratio. I have tried all the possible settings of wide, 14:9, zoom, etc and none make any difference. Is there a hidden ''picture shift'' facility which I can access? or does the TV need maintenance and repair.
Many thanks

thanks for the speedy reply. since I am a layman in this context and the TV is under an extended warranty, I have contacted the insurance company. I wanted confirmation that this was not fixable by altering user-accessible settings, which you have done. Thanks again

Disconnect the x and y sustain boards from the power supply. then check the flex connector to the screen and reseat them. check connections on c boards at bottom and screen connectors. reconnect the power supply only after all flex cables are reconnected or charge from supply will burn flex cables. if still preent replace correcsponding c board. if still no fix replace panel.

HI,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

GOOD LUCK IN RECTIFYING THE FAULT, THANKS

My plasma tv TH42PX60B has one of the side bars black in colour. The picture around the bar is distorted while all the other parts of the picture is fine.could you advice me of what component may have gone...

Do you mean that there is a black bar down the screen? if so and it is on both TV and DVD then it is the TV that is faulty. Either there is a loose connection on the digital board or panel FPC's (Flat Panel Connectors) or the plasma panel itself has failed. Need to take it in for service.

Ten flashes on my TH42PX60B then nothing.

Your mainboard is damaged, replace it and that will solve your issue.
