SOURCE: How do I change the transmission in a speed queen

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:vaSKIsbofmAJ:www.appliancepartscompany.com/apcocatalog/speedqueen/01-16speedqueen.pdf+change+transmission+in+speed+queen&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESj7EkDCJJCpg2i9SS_9xB5sxQYCPAu03NMl-k09R4eea8Iz9JPec08BOsjyCYHJLazuAU0lVuxo9-fK5264w27_vjM76tKi4oTpo4wdGb7Hx-WysRTU_RlxPDeEdxy3hHIkk3yo&sig=AHIEtbS9byLtJXCiotxSA-LOYWSRQ9gi6w

here is a breakdown diagram if you need it.

Step 1 Cut off all power to the machine

Step 2 Turn off water supply
Step 3 - Drain Line If removing the drain and water lines provide more access to replacing the washing machine transmission, go ahead and remove it.
Step 4 - Water Turn off the water supply knob. In case you cannot find it then turn off the water supply lines till the job is completed.
Step 5 - Control Panel Take off the screws at the front end of the control panel. Use a screwdriver. Once the screws are removed, pull out the console and flip it free.
Step 6 - Unplug the Wires Locate the wires that act as harness. You need to unplug these wires. Use a flat ended blade to push the clips that hold the wires in place. This will release the wires.
Step 7 - Cabinet The next step in the washing machine transmission replacement process is, to lift up the lid and pull out the cabinet from the washing machine by tilting the machine towards you.
Step 8 - Screws After you remove the cabinet you will find an agitator cap. Below the cap are screws and bolts which are protected by a plastic cover. Unscrew the bolts and the screw to remove the agitator. This will reveal the shaft where the transmission is located.
Step 9 - Pump Remove the spring clips that hold the pump in place. Remove the two additional screws on the motor as well. There is no need to remove the hoses.
Step 10 - Freeing the Unit With the help of a flat tip screwdriver, take off the clip at the bottom. Make sure the motor doesn't fall off. Releasing the clip at the top will free the motor and the coupling from the washing machine transmission unit.
Step 11 - Installation Free the washing machine transmission from the frame. Make sure to remove the two bolts. Tilt and slide the unit at the bottom. Make sure not to damage any washers in the process.
Step 12 - Final Step After removing the old, place the new washing machine transmission in place by following the steps above in reverse order. Reconnect all the pipes and fitting. urn on the power supply, open the water supply and test the machine

SOURCE: I have a Speed Queen top loader(older model). It

Make sure that the lid switch is working as it can make the program from advancing forward. So check the continuity of the switch that goes to trigger the main board.
If Ok then the program controller is not functioning, if you can try to change manually then the control board is faulty.

When the spin cycle begins the washer vibirates and moves on the floor. After the spin cycle reaches the maxium speed it stops. The springs are fine, but what else could be wrong?

The machine is probably not leveled properly. To level the machine, partly fill it with water. Make sure that the drum is standing in the middle of the machine and then adjust the machine until the water is at the same level all around at the nearest set of holes to the water. Check that the drum is still in the center of the outer drum. Make sure that the adjusting feet are all firmly on the floor and that you cannot rock the machine at all by hand. A top loader must be 100% level or it will shake.

At start of spin cycle water splashes over top and runs down.

Hi, just fixed the daughters speed queen, same problem. The three brake shoes were worn allowing the tub to spin with the agitator.
replaced the shoes, washer fine. At first I thought it was the top ring. spent 30 dollars for nothing.
