Only when the middle AF-point (square in the middle) becomes green and you hear a beep, you can press the button compete to make the picture. With live view, you degrade your camera to a point and shoot. Focusing takes longer that way. Can be handy is special situations, but the focusing could be a pain, when you are used of taking pictures trough the view finder.
Pictures of the moon require a tripod. Night mode is a good starting place. After taking a test picture, if the moon seems too bright, you need to set the "exposure compensation" to the next lower number. Take another test photo and adjust as necessary one way or another. After you get a successful photo, you will need to crop it a lot to get the moon large enough.
The 350D doesn't have this Live View function. You can however, playback photos you've captured on the camera. Pressing the "play" button ought to show those pictures. first, if the LCD does not display the picture you just capture, there is a possibility that the digital module of the device is broken and that it does not show or save the pictures you have recently captured.
if the pictures you recently captured can be viewed on a computer, there is a possibility that the connection between the LCD and the camera is loose. we canot say that tha issue is the LCD since it displays previoulsy captured image.
to work around the issue, it is best if you visit a local repair shop or a technician to have a look at the unit and have it repaired.
as per the cost, it will actually depend on the damage of the device. you may want to put a new camera as one of your options.
