I am getting an error message that says 5C00

The 5C00 code is for purge cam sensor error meaning an error occurred in the purge unit. You can remove the purge assembly and clean out all the ink covering the moving parts. You can clean it with isopropyl alcohol or just water. If no luck, replace the purge unit, will be around $30. This is the part number, if you need to replace it: Purge unit (QM2-2925).

I have a mp780 and there is an error 6A00

Hi there

This answers with a titch more detail.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.
As a Canon tech, I usually find the code, almost 90% of the time, is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.
Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

And yes I have found all those things in a purge unit.
The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model.

And it's always a paper path error or purge unit.

The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.

Also clean the purge unit out make sure all is clean.

Thanks for using fixya....

How do i clean a purge unit on mp610 canon? where is it located?

the purge unit is located where the print head rest itself.. normally it's under the right side of the printer.
You will need to remove the cover in order to clean the purge unit, you have to be very careful as the purge unit might have small spring and if it's not fitted correctly, it will damage the purge unit.
Easiest way to clean it is switch on the printer, and open the front or top cover...let the print head move to replacement position then pull the power out and clean the purge unit. It's a messy thing as it will be fill with ink. U can clean it using tissue and moist cloth... apart from that, don't think you can clean much of it unless you are able to open the whole printer up then you will have a better view and space to clean it.
