Jumpers guide Maxtor 2B020H1 20Gb Slim IDE 3.5'' Hard Drive

Jumpers guide
master & slaved 4 two drives

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

    Set one to master and one to slave. The drives have a sticker on the case that shows what position the jumper should be in for master w/slave, slave, and single.

Maxtor hard drive settings for a 53073H4

Before doing anything, the user should completely shut down and unplug the computer to prevent electrocution or computer damage. Remove the computer's side panel so that the hard drive is displayed in order to find the jumpers on the IDE drive. Disconnect the power and IDE cables from the hard drive to access the drive better. The hard drive's jumpers are the small, black pegs on the back of the drive. These pegs fit over small metal conductors and assign the IDE drive's role. The user can remove the jumpers by prying them off of their current conductors with his/her fingernails or a small screwdriver. The jumpers can then be relocated to other conductors in order to assign a role to the IDE drive. The user should be very careful while handling the Maxtor jumpers as they are fragile and very important.maxtor-jumper-settings.jpegEach IDE drive model is different but most have three basic settings: Cable Select, Master, and Slave. Each setting is described below.

Cable Select

Cable Select is a Maxtor jumper setting that is the default for virtually all IDE drives. Cable Select allows an IDE drive to naturally become either a Master or Slave depending on the cable used. Cable Select is a neutral setting and is also often used when a user only has one IDE device installed or when a device is neither a Master or a Slave, such as a Floppy Disk drive.

hope this helps

What settings in the bios with maxtor as slve and quantom fireball as master

There are no settings in the BIOS for setting up master ans slave drives.
The hard drives have jumpers for configuring master and Slave drives.
If your hard drives are IDE/PATA hard drives and you intend to install these drives on the same IDE cable then you can set the jumper on Quantum drive as Master and the Maxtor on Slave.
I suggest that you install the Quantum as master on the 1st IDE cable and the Maxtor as Master on the 2nd IDE cable for maximum data transfer rate between the two hard drived.
Any other devices that are connected to these IDE cables will need to be jumpered as Slave devices.

Dimondmax22 stm3500320as 500MB juper setings for slave?

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to IDE-1 means Pri slave escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
you will have to have master with slave set up
you can find the jumper location next to the power on a hard drive and the settings for plastic jumper location is usually printed on the top of a hard drive
IDE-0 means Pri master ?
IDE-1 means Pri slave ?
IDE-2 means Sec master ?
IDE-3 means Sec slave ?

Hope this helps

How the jumper setting is done for maxtor n256j50

If this is an IDE/PATA hard drive then the jumper settings are marked on the circuit board.
MA = master
SL = slave
CS = cable select
If this hard drive is the one installed on the Primary IDE controller the the jumper has to be set to Master. If it won't boot up then the jumper needs to be set to Cable select.

If this hard drive is a second hard drive and is connected to the 2nd connector on the IDE data cable that is connected to the primary IDE controller then the jumper must be set to Slave.

If this hard drive is a second hard drive and is connected to the secondary IDE controller and there is no other drive on the IDE data cable other than this hard disk the the jumper can be set to either Master or Slave.
If there is a CD drive on this cable too then the drives on this data cable then the jumpers on each drive must be set differently, they cannot be set the same jumper setting.

I have a maxtor quantum fireball plus as 20.5 hard drive. i want to set it to slave. how do i set the jumpers?

on maxtor drives, you will find the jumper within a cluster of 9 pins. if you look on the bottom of the drive, on the circuit board, the pins should be labeled "ms" "cs" and such. the "ms" and "cs" stand for "master" and "cable select". you rarely use the true "slave" setting anymore, more often than not' "slave" drives are set to "cable select" and are attached to the middle, slave position on the ide cable. in "cable select" mode, the cable decides what device is master and what is slave, depending upon the devices' position on the ide cable.

to set the drive to "slave", set the jumper so that it only has 1 pin under it, and doesnt actually jump any pins, or just take the jumper out. only use the "slave" setting if the "master" device on the same ide cable is actually set to "master".

if the master device is actually set to "cable select" then you will have to set the slave device also to "cable select" and the middle position on the ide cable will set it automatically to be a slave. , instead of using the jumper to make it the "slave".

to set the drive as "cable select", which is what i would recommend, use the jumper to connect the 2 pins which are labeled "cs", the 2nd position from the bottom position on most older maxtor drives, and attach this hard drive to the middle connector of the ide cable.

I want to add another hard drive and need to know how to set the jumpers on my maxtor 90645d3 please help.ty

if you want to boot from this drive, please set the jumper to the master position.

if this drive is for additional storage, please set the jumper to slave. and make sure 1st hard drive is set to master.

if this is the only drive in the system, please set the jumper to single or remove the jumper.

there will be a chart telling you which pins are for which setting in the jumper area, which is between the data plug and the power plug on the back of your HDD.

main thing that will cause drives to not work is 2 jumpers on the same cable and they both are set to the same thng.. i.e. master/master or slave/slave. also, if one is set to single drive it will likely bypass the slave drive.

Take Three: I have an older Maxtor Hard DriveTake Two: I have an older Maxtor Hard Drive (Model 90645D3). I need to transfer some files from it (Win98SE) to new hard drive (WinXP Pro). I asked earlier and...

Jumper off will set the drive to slave. If you can connect both drives to the same ribbon cable with the master on the end & the slave to the second connector. Look at your bios as win is booting up to see if shows the drive as slave, you will not be able to copy windows as a operating system off of the drive, but should be able to copy files.

Good luck on your endevors.
