Denon AVR 3808Ci Receiver Logo
Posted on Apr 24, 2009

I have a Denon AVR-3808CI A/V receiver, a Samsung HL67A750 DLP TV, a Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray player, and a Motorola HDPVR for the cable signal. I have connected the Blu-ray player and HDPVR to the Denon using HDMI cables, then connected the Denon to the TV using a single HDMI cable. To get the best picture quality, I initially adjusted the TV's picture quality options (I purchased it before the Denon). Now that I have the Denon and cannot "turn off" the TV's video processor, I am not sure of which of the Denon's "HDMI Setup" adjustments to modify; i.e will adjusting the Denon's i/p Scaler, Resolution, Progressive Mode, Aspect or RGB Range settings conflict with the TV's settings (it has ~15 for video)? Do the Denon's video adjustments override any/all of the TV's video settings? This is my first exposure to HD "stuff" so I really appreciate your help. Thank you. Greg from Port Alberni, BC, Canada

You will have to disable one or the other. Most likely the source because not all disk"s will be recorded the same. If a disk was transfered from film to digital poorly, this will show up as a grainy look on your tv, not much you can do about that. I would set your tv the best possible and go with that, also if your tv is capable of 24fps use that setting.tweaktv.com can help you with your tv setting. Use Progressive Mode on you blueray and your dvd also.

HDMI - no output Samsung P1600 BD

the hdmi output generally needs activating through the menu system. im assuming you havent already done this.
connect it with whatever cable works and navigate through to the menu system to select the hdmi output.
failing that it might be the hdmi cable is an older cable not capable of supporting ver1.3

Denon Receiver AVR 1602 not playing Dolby Digital w/ Samsung BD

Dolby signals are passed via either an RF cable or optical link. Both the receiver and player need to have these switched on and that they are passing the correct signals. You clearly found the correct setting for the TV sound link. Now you just have to find the one for the DVD player.

Selecting a Blu-Ray Player

If Denon blu ray has coaxial or optical out for audio, then your Denon receiver will process this signal and will give you 7.1 out sound.
