Dell Vostro 1500 wont play cd

1. Try looking at the BIOS first if the cd/dvd is detected if yes proceed to step 2 else replace the cd/dvd player
2. Try other known good cd or dvds
3. Try to delete upper and lower filters
4. Click start -> Click Run (Windows XP)/ Start Search (Vista) / Search Programs and Files (Windows 7)
5. Type Regedit
6. Click on the triangle/plus sign beside HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE
7. Click on the triangle/plus sign beside SYSTEM
8.Click on the triangle/plus sign beside CurrentControlSet
9.Click on the triangle/plus sign beside Class
10.Click on the Folder {4D36E965-.......}
Note: The first 4 digits might be the same we need the digit that has a 65
11. Restart the computer and your done

If the drive was working before normally then the lens of the drive has started to Mal-function. please contact the manufacturer if the product still has warranty.

Dell is known for troubled CD drives. I would take the laptop to the supplier, if you have warranty. In some cases, Dell would take responsibilty and replace the drive or even the whole laptop free of charge (it is their fault, after all...)

best thing to do is buy a wireless usb mouse and hook it up otherwise will be a 100 fix at least. Try opening the touch pad screen on the tool bar and adjust it to work again.
