For the past two washes my dispenser has not dispensed the soap or fabric softener. I took out the tray, cleaned it and checked for anything that would be obstructing it. I ran a cycle of bleach, with the same results. I believe the detergent is going right through the washere and not into the drum, but the fabric softener and bleach compartments are not dispensing at all.

pull drawer out towards you, untill it comes to a stop.!push down plastic tab and pull the rest of the way out, some dispensers have to be lifted and pulled at the same time.wash it then with hot water! take apart softener compartment to clean, makeing sure small hole is free!!!close eire
SOURCE: fabric softener dispenser won't drain the fabric softener.
Not sure if you already did this, but try pulling the face plates off inside the dispencer and take it to the sink and run very hot water into the "stand pipe" that projects off the back of the face plate to make sure they are clear and no old crusty products are in the hole.. Then put them back in and push down hard and make sure they are fully seated.
If the plates are loose and not seated or clogged, there will be little or no siphon effect to draw the fluids out of the dispenser. At least thats how it seems to work
Also, if you pull the top off the washer, there is an adjustment on top of the dispenser to adjust the dispensing ratios I believe.
I just did that procedure the other day on my machine and the wife said it works good now.
Let me know it it works for you, I was wondering if it was just a coincidence.

You can get all of Whirlpools user guides here:

Generally the one one the left - is for pre-wash (if clothes really soiled), the middle one is for powder (if you use it) and the last one is for softener or bleach.
I just use liquitabs - which go directly into the drum, and fabric softender.
SOURCE: Fabric softener will not dispense
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
I hope you don't mind me saying so but often the softener dispensing siphon tube gets missed when cleaning the dispenser 'cos it's difficult to see!----------->
It will normally have some sort of cover over it which you must remove to expose the little stuck up pipe/tube. On some models there is just a small individual cap over the tube. The tube is down which the conditioner and water should siphon. It is likely to be blocked by 'gunge'- a mix of powder and conditioner. The whole of the tray, particularly this pipe and the bit which fits over it, must be completely clean and clear for it to operate correctly. It is worthwhile checking fairly regularly.
If this isn't the problem it could be that the water dispensing is not working correctly. It is easy to check by selecting (final?) rinse, pulling the drawer slightly out and seeing and hearing whether water is being fed into the softener tray. If is isn't then it is a call-out ;-0(
If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!
