Maytag Neptune stacked W/D unit Spin Enable/Door Lock Switches I have a Maytag Neptune stacked W/D unit MHS2000AWW, which no one seems to be able to find but it looks just like Model # MLG2000A, which is I think a later model To begin with, the drum would not spin at all - no tumbling backwards to try to readjust load - just a sliding sound as though it should spin but couldn't catch gear. I ran the machine with a paper clip bridging P3/1 to P3/7 on the control board. The result was perfect run through of cycles/ jet engine like, whisper quiet final spin. I then tested the spin enable switch with my meter (ohm) and it tested fine. After putting it back, I remembered reading that the switch is delicate and shouldn't be over screwed and worried I might have done that; so I switched the spin enable switch with the identical switch to the left of it (that runs the door lock light) then ran the machine through spin cycle again. This time, the machine kept initiating spin, starting to really gear up, then cut out. It did this again and again. It didn't sound as though it was rotating backward to rebalance. So - I turned it off, but noticed that the door lock light stayed on. I tried to open the door and it opened easily. I suspect that it hadn't locked and that the machine would have spun through but for the fact that the door hadn't locked. In looking at how the door light switch works I note that the door light is off when the button on the switch is compressed and comes on when its released. So it seems that some part of the door lock mechanism should be compressing the button when the machine is off/first turned on, then should slide off it causing the light to come on once the wax motor mechanism releases. The switch is fixed in place precisely by two screws and the button is not in contact with anything now. I did pull on the green, plastic, emergency release string a few times just to see how the door lock mechanism moves - could I have misalligned it by doing that? The only other thing I can think of is that maybe I reverse attached the two feeds to the switch? I don't think I did and am afraid to try reversing them now in case it would cause a short or something. Any insights?

Looking at the video you posted re: wax motor replacement, can you tell me whether the assembly should hold the door lock light switch in the closed/compressed position when the door hasn't locked yet?

SOURCE: Maytag MLE 2000AYW: Doesn't spin

The Door Locked light is not activated by the door itself but by the wax motor inside the door latch assembly. The activation of the Door Locked light switch signals the control board to advance to the spin cycle and it is done by the wax motor by extending its shaft and pushing the switch contacts together. Advancing of the machine to the spin cycle when the switch is activated manually by the S hook simply tells that the wax motor (part number 12002535) has indeed failed and needs to be replaced.

Disconnect power then unstack the dryer from the top of the washer. Open the washer door and remove the four screws located vertically along the inside lip of the door opening. These screws hold the front panel to the front shroud assembly.

jahn27_297.jpg

Disengage the front panel posts from the clips located on the face of the cabinet by grasping the upper part of the front panel posts and pressing in on the outer edges then twisting it inward.

jahn27_299.jpg

Once the front panel posts are released from the cabinet, tilt the front panel away from the cabinet and remove it.

Remove the two 5/16" hex-head screws securing the two top cover hold down brackets; one on each side.

jahn27_301.jpg

Swing the brackets to the outside and unhook it from the lip of the top cover then lift the top cover to the rear if the machine.

The door latch assembly can now be accessed and replaced. Reassemble the machine in reverse order of the disassembly steps.

Why is my maytag Neptune Model no# MAH5500AWW spinning very slow and not draining water out?

Complete drain must occur before spin. A no drain situation would be an actual full pool of water seen in the bottom of the machine if all the cloths were removed, sounds like you are experiencing a spin enable switch failure, which mainly prevents final high speed spin leaving the cloths dripping wet. The spin enable switch contacts become tarnished/corroded over time resulting in poor connection. If the door lock light comes on than your door lock wax motor is working. The spin enable switch is the last switch to the right in the door lock unit where the light bulb is. Part# is 22002162. If there is an actual pool of water in the bottom of the machine as if you simply removed the cloths from the unit but left the wash water, than you should look first look to your drain pump for failure, or obstruction of foreign objects, or excess lint in the pump. Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers No Spin Problem

A class suit was filed in the State of Illinois, USA and then later on won against Maytag in 2004 due to the high failure rate of the wax motor used in the door lock mechanism of their Neptune Front Load Washers. The wax motor is used to activate the door lock switch by extending its shaft when a voltage from the machine control is applied across its terminals. Its failure then leads to the breaking down of components in the expensive machine control board. This is the fact that angered the customers which led to the filing of the class suit.

The obvious symptom of a failed wax motor is the inability of the washer to advance to the spin cycle and the door lock lamp is not turned on. The washer stops momentarily at the end of the wash cycle then continue to tumble as the machine control checks the activation of the door lock switch. The control will not allow a spin speed higher than 51 revolutions per minute (RPM) unless the door lock switch is activated by the wax motor. It is a safety feature of the washer to prevent accident due to accidental opening of the washer door during a high speed spin.

Customers who purchased the Neptune Front Load Washers in the USA after April 1, 1997 and before August 9, 2004 are Class members and eligible for the repair reimbursement, replacement cost, or purchase certificate depending on the length of service of the machine. Call up Maytag at 1-888-MAYTAG (1-888-629824) for more information.

The models included in the class suit are as follows: MLE2000AYW, MLE2000AWW, MLE2000AZW, MLG2000AWW (Gas Stack Unit), MAH3000AAW, MAH3000AEW, MAH3000AGW, MAH3000AWA, MAH3000AWW, MAH3000BGW, MAH4000AWW, MAH4000BWW, MAH4000AWQ, MAH4000BWQ, MAH5500AWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWQ, MAH55FLBWW, MAH55FLBWQ, MAH6500AWW, MAH6500AWQ, MAH7500AWW, MAH7500AWQ, MAH7550AAW, MAH7550AGW.

Maytag neptun tub doesnt spin during spin cycle

The spin enable switch located on the door lock assembly is the most suspect failed part. Sometimes there are one or more sensors connected to the out of balance circuit that can cause a no spin condition. Lastly if your serial number qualifies, you will need a motor conversion kit as this failure can cause a no spin issue. Pleazer Appliance...

Im having trouble with my maytag neptune tl washer it wont finish the spin cycle

Please see the following Whirlpool / Maytag service manual for Neptune washers.
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/dc59d905140253e18525729c005765f4/$FILE/Maytag_Neptune_Washer.pdf

On page 3-1 the manual explains that if the washer shuts off during the spin cycle, the problem points to a weak spring in the door lock mechanism.

"Shuts OFF In The Middle Of The Spin Cycle:
During the spin cycle, the machine control
monitors the door lock mechanism to ensure
the door is locked. This is done through the
door lock enable switch. During "lock mode,"
the shaft of the door lock mechanism is
pressed forward by the door lock wax motor,
and the shaft presses in the button of the door
lock enable switch. If the machine control
board sees the switch OPEN during the spin
cycle, the machine control board will automatically
shut the washer OFF. This is caused
by a weak spring in the door lock wax motor.
Replace the complete door lock mechanism.

Maytag neptune washer MAH-1 start button turns off, does not spin

Hi!

Is it pumping water? If not then pump is bad.
Is the door locking? If the door will not lock, the washer will not enter a spin mode. See if the lock light is lite on the console.

Check for continuity across the Door Lock, Spin Enable Switch when the switch actuator button is pressed in. If there is no continuity across the Door Lock, Spin Enable Switch, replace the Door Lock Switch Assembly.(Check for 120 vac across the Door Lock Wax Motor)

Please rate this solution and ask for further clarifications if needed.

Thanks

Maytag neptune mlg2000aww door will not lock or spin

Removing the top cover of the dryer, you will find, in the front right, the machine electronic control board with a burned resistor. This resistor burns up when the washer lock motor fails. The lock motor and control board will need replacing. Parts cost will be around $220.00.

Maytag washer issues

Could be just about anything. It's all designed to prevent it from spinning if there is a problem. If the motor is still turning, but never gets up to spin speed, check the out of balance circuit. There are two cabinet strike switches and an inertial unbalance switch. Or check the door latch assembly, it's possible for the door to lock enough to turn the 'door lock' light on, but not move far enough to actuate the 'spin enable' switch. Maytag has upgraded the motor/ motor control board for the older Neptunes. If the motor is not running at all, check that the main control board is sending power to the motor control board. If it is you need the motor/ motor control kit (just one part #) If the main board is not sending power to the motor control board, you need a main control board, but you still need to test the motor control board. Take a test cord and put 120 volts to the motor control board, the motor should start turning at 50 rpm (normal agitate speed) if it doesn't you would need the motor/ motor control kit as well.

Stacked Maytag Neptune - Accessing Inertial imb/Upper tub disp Switches

The switches you are referring to are set-reset. These rarely have a fault. Normally the machine control board is the faulty component. How did you determine that these switches are faulty ?

The safest way to access the upper portion of the washer is to remove the dryer. Another method is to remove the "complete" washer front and the control panel. This will give you access to the top of the washer tub.
