It started making screeching noise when going in to spin mode. Sounded like metal on metal. When the cycle was shut off and turned on again, the sound started again. On one attempt, it would not spin at all and hummed as if the motor was overcome with resistance. Upon inspection, I find the motor shaft turns freely without any indication of worn bearings, the pump pulley turns fine, too. The tub also seems to turn fine without any evidence of bearing wear. The belt is in good shape, too. I'm going to inspect the discharge filter as suggested.

The machine actually began to agitate after he reassembled the unit! He told me that he'd come back without an additional $30 fee within 30 days if the problem reoccured; as indicated before, this is day 35 and I'm not happy. He's returning next Tuesday; however, after reading the solutions at this site, I'm feeling fairly confident that my husband and I can fix it ourselves. If it was the bearing it should be leaking water out the bottom! It is more than likely the water pump. The seal in the pump drops down and then makes noise. The pump should be in rear. tilt machine back remove belt then try turning the pump by hand if tight replace.

hello you need to change drum rollers but if u remarked water dawn the washer and burn smell it could be the motor OR THE BELT because when the drum stop turning or turn slowly the motor turn fast on the belt when spin time it make this smell .
might b motor fault or jammed gearbox.when motor turns one way it drains and spins, when it turns other way it agitates,might b jamming when it turns for agitate.try looking under unit and remove belt, then turn main drive pulley by hand clockwise then anticlock to see if it is jamming. turn power off first dont want any accidents.please reply to see how u go.good luck
Sounds like it is the bearing on the water pump. Take off back plate and replace and remove 3 screws and two hoses (the one hose is a waste line so make sure you have a bucket to empty our waste water) after removing these remove belt on bottom of pump.
Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.
CHECK your stand pipe hasn't fell over (the one the drain hose goes to when emptying)If not,Either the pressure switch is broke or there is a hole or split in the pressure switch rubber hose.This switch stops the water when it reaches required level.
