MY TV IS 3 YRS OLD, IN THE FIRST 10 MINUTES WHEN IT IS ON IT WILL GET SKAKING,BOUNCING HORIZONTAL LINES ACROSS THE WHOLE SCREEN THAT DISTORT THE PICTURE WITH LINES AND WHAT LOOKS LIKE A OLD BAD RECEPTION PICTURE, IF I SMACK THE TOP OF THE TV IT MAKES THEM GO AWAY, IF I DONT SMACK THE TOP THEY WILL STAY AND GO AWAY THEN COME BACK. ONCE SMACKED AND WARMED UP PICTURE IS USUALLY OK THE REST OF THE TIME THAT IT IS ON. ANY SUGGESTIONS.
My tv is 5 years old. Upon start up the picture is very poor, jagged, bouncy, shaky lines. After about 10 minutes of warm up the picture begins to improve and all is well again. This only happens when the tv is first turned.
It's getting worse meaning the warm up period is taking longer. What could be wrong? My tv is 5 years old. Upon start up the picture is very poor, jagged, bouncy, shaky lines. I had this problem around the time my TV was 3 years old. I ended up having to get it repaired at a TV repair place, it cost me $375.

Horizontal waves at initial startup getting worse until the screen is almost a blurr (about 10 minutes)...then, bingo, much better (not perfect). It stays with faint horizontal blurr, best picture with HD, but I can't view any input devices, i.e. Wii or DVD players are unviewable.Horizontal waves at initial startup getting worse until the screen is almost a blurr (about 10 minutes)...then, bingo, much better (not perfect). This tv problems it is alway the board that call the T-CON decodering board it is dying. This T-CON decodering board sit in the middle at the bottom of the tv LCD screen panel. This T-CON decodering board decodes all the tv picture dots pixels before it go into the tv LCD screen panel itself.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish T-CON decodering board for the replacement.
The line is there because the vertical deflection unit - the one that spreads that line across the entire screen to form the image - has failed. Replacing it is a job for a professional, or at least an experienced amateur, and the parts will be quite difficult to find for such an old tv .
It has gone into a self protect mode where it will shut down because you have a fault in the frame stage of the TV (horizontal line). This will most likely be a failure of the frame output IC. Replace this & you should restore the normal picture.
The problem is that the panel has failed. Apparently this is a common problem with LCD TV's between 18 mths and 3 yrs old. If it survives over 3 yrs it is likely to last for a few years longer. The cost of replacing the panel is more than a replacement TV!
