My 1972 Crane toilet developed a crack on each side of the tank all by itself! It caused major water damage because of the leaking. How can this happen? It is in our vacation condo.
There are a few things that could have happened.
Your tank could have froze and cracked.
The tank bolts could have been overtightened and cracked the tank.
Someone jarred the tank and got a crack started.
The tanks are porcelain and if you hit it with a hammer, it would break easily.
Since it has made it since 1972, I'm pretty sure that it is not a factory defect.
If I am leaving for an extended period of time, I always shut off the main water supply to the house. There are a lot of things that could leak and if you aren't there, they could leak a lot of water before catching it.
I'm sure that this inappropriate rating is incorrect.
Trying to help someone for free is obviously a waste of time in this case.
I'm sure that the person who gave this rating is ignorant and must have left this rating in error.
Next time have a plumber make a service call and he will tell you the exact same thing for $150.00.
