Unit is broken - who might be able to recover the messages?.Olympus does not. I was told to find "Professional Digital Voice Recorder recovery people" but have been unable to locate such people.
Any ideas?

Maybe you can rely on a Do It Yourself data recovery software to help if the storage device of your recorder is good. This recovery tool is able to recover audio, video and photo files. Good luck.
Unfortunately this recorder model is designed with flash memory and there are some companies that do specialize in flash memory recovery (Olympus is not one of them). You can go to google and search for flash memory recovery specialists. However this is a very costly process as it involves sending the device to these companies for them to do the recovery process.
