If using the feeder probably face up as it will likely pull the document in and invert it to lay face down on the scanning glass.

if you lift up the feeder (like lifting the top of a copy machine), then it would be face down on the glass.

there should be an image on the feeder illustrating how the document should be placed - if it looks like a page with lines on it with a bent corner then it is face up.

Kodak 5500 AiO printer has automatic document feeder where you place originals for copying, scanning, or faxing. Place a stack of originals (up to 35 sheets of 20 lb plain paper) in the automatic document feeder facing up or lift the lid and place your original face down on the left rear corner of the scanner glass.

When faxing should the paper be face up or face down?

According to the manual, the documents should be placed face down in the auto document feeder.
Here's a link to the manual that I spoke about:

Hope this helps!

I haven't faxed for a while and have a dumb question. Do I insert sheets face down or face up? Thanx

If you are inserting them into the ADF (auto document feeder) on the top of the machine, then they need to be face up. If you are faxing from the glass, they need to be face down. I hop this esolves your issue.

Want receive a fax

To receive a fax, first check to see if your telephone line has the capacity to send and receive faxes, a "conventional modem" sometimes is necessary, that may have changed with VOIP . Make sure to configure printer for faxing and that the Fax icon appears in the Printer/Fax window.. Follow all the basic set up steps to configure Fax, making sure all options are set correctly to enable where required. You might call your local phone company and ask them what you need to hook up a fax capable printer...or ask the manufacturer for the specifics of configuration for faxing.

Calibration not working

When you place the calibration sheet on the scanner glass, make sure you put it with the blue arrow facing the yellow triangle on the scanner. (the page must be, obviously, facing down).

As with the red color issue goes, try replacing the color ink cartridge. If that does not work, contact kodak support to fix the problem (you can go to kodak.com/go/itg for troubleshooting steps)

I talked to Kodak and you can't. You have to have all ink cartridges filled and ready in order to perform any operation! I know, it sucks!
