Hi my dishwasher door won't latch & stay closed. I checked for things in the way or racks not in properly. latch comes open each time....
Finally fixed kitchenaid dishwasher door popping open! After replacing latches and strike plates twice, but still the door not staying closed, I tried a different approach and it works. You must adjust the front levelers up. They are located behind front kick plate. Simply turn them to full raised position. My theory is that the tub frame is not as rigid as it needs to be and therefore the door frame is extremely sensitive to being out of square. This finally fixed the problem, took three years of trouble shooting, but that is the fix. Spread the word!
genius is often overlooked. thank you purelldav. it worked. i think your right abou the frame. in addition when the front legs are adjusted higher there is pressure from the counter on the top of the frame. also with the front legs extended the door becomes more vertical. whatever the cause your post was the solution!!!!!!!!!!! sweeeet.
Thanks so much for this post. Raising the front worked for me. I still don't understand how the problem developed. Where exactly did the distortion occur that caused this? Do you think the source of the problem is distortion with the tub, frame, or door? Hinges?

Same problem wirh KUDS01FLBT5 - door will not stay closed or pops opens quickly if it does close (w/o proping shut). Replaced door latch (in door), cabinet (metal box), hinge pulley chords, Level whole dishwasher and door. This is weird - I think it's a design issue. We are now replacing the D/W with a GE product.

Same latch, same problem, different solution! here's what I did to solve this. After removing the screws from the countertop pull the unit forward a few inches and you will see the latch strike. Cut a 2 inch piece of wire coat hanger and insert the piece under the right side and push it over the center section and under the left side. It should be as close to the door edge as possible. Test to see if that solves it... it did for me.
I think your solution might help for a while, but I suspect it might not for long. I think that purelldav has the right idea that the cause is some kind of distortion in the frame or door. I was able to get a better latch catch by depressing the center of the latch (effectively using your solution) while opening and closing the door. But even then the door would barely catch. I got the best results by raising the front legs about 1/2" or better. I think another solutin would be to extend the door latch somehow about 1/8".
I meant to say extend the strike 1/8" into the latch.

I pulled the dishwasher out from under the counter and raised the front by sliding a bit of plastic under the front levelers. This resolved the problem. But the level I raised the front is too high to fit under the counter. I still have no explanation as to how this problem developed. Has anyone tried replacing the hinges?
I should also mention, I tried bending the strike to get a better grip. That did not work, and, in fact, I had to straighten it to it's original shape to make it work again.
I also made sure the door was level as you can see from the image.
I believe the problem could also be resolved by finding a way to extend the latch about 1/8". It appears that the problem occurs because the strick no longer extends quite far enough into the latch.
Having read all the other post and having examined the latch and catch carefully, I felt quite sure replacing it alone would not provide a permanent fix; however, I have to say I was surprised how much better the new latch and catch worked. The tolerances for this part is so slim that an imperceptible amount of wear can cause it to fail. After replacing the part, the unit works perfectly, I don't know how long before it fails again.

Same problem. I raised the levels in the front and also loosened slightly loosened the screws holding the dishwasher in place under the rim of the countertop. This worked.
Hi
Error CL appears when the dishwasher control
detects door switch is open or door is open. You'll have to open the door and
check the continuity of the door switch. If the door seems to be closed then it
is the control has detected an issue with the door latch. Check the door latch
& seals to make sure door is closing fine. Unplug the dishwasher from power
outlet and wait for 10-15 minutes. Restart the dishwasher and check if the
error is still there. If error still appears then you'll need to repalce the door
switch/door latch. Hope this helps... Please post back for further assistance.

I have the same problem. The Door will not stay latched. I checked for all the usual things rack in the way etc..
I have a Kitchenaid KUDP02CRBS1 and I'm having the same problem. I close the door but it won't stay closed, it just pops open.
Same problem door refuses to stay latched
I'm having the same problem, it just will not stay close.
same problem
I have the same problem. Raising the front legs fixes the problem, but there isn't enough space under the cabinet to put the dishwasher back in its place with the front legs raised. Has anyone tried replacing the hinges?
