This is happening because the booting device sequence on your computer has got changed, due to some reason.
Booting device sequence settings, decide whether your computer will look for a boot medium from the floppy drive or from the hard drive or from the cd/dvd drive, etc in whatever sequence that is set in the BIOS settings.
If you are getting "Disk Boot Failure, Insert Disk" then the the floppy disk drive has been somehow put as the 1st device in the BIOS boot sequence settings.
This has to be changed to hard drive as the 1st device in the BIOS boot sequence settings.
It would have really been very useful, if you mentioned the make and model of your desktop, so that I could have given you exact steps to follow. However, to correct the issue, typically the foll. will have to be done :-
Restart your computer
• Hit DEL (on some computer brands, it may be F2 , F10 or F12 hey) or any key that prompts to enter the BIOS
The following message is usually displayed when you power up your computer:
Press to enter Setup. is normally [Del], [ESC] or any other keys depending on the BIOS that comes with the computer.
• In the BIOS menu, look for Boot Sequence
• Select your required boot device to be the first boot device.
Please select Hard Drive as the 1st boot device.
• Save and exit the BIOS
• Restart the computer. The computer should now boot up fine. Then, please note :-
NOTE : in many cases a virus infection may have got the boot sequence changed, so please do run a full scan with the antivirus that is installed on your computer.
SOURCE: Windows freezes at startup window.
you may have to change a setting in the bios to make the computer boot from the cd instead of the hard disk
SOURCE: Computer does not see hard
reset the bios then check the power connector and the IDE or SATA cable for loose contact or change them see whether the hard disk is spinning or making any noise if you hear noise the hard dis is need ed to be changed if the hard disk is not spinning check the power connector and also check whether the circuit board below the hard disk is getting hot if its getting hot you need to change the circuit board of the hard disk with same company and number
