First, we need to determine the number of square units in the Imperial system. We can choose to do the calculation in feet or inches.

Let's do it in inches first. There are 12" in a foot, so we multiply 90,000 by 12 to get 1,080,000 linear inches. Multiplying this by 41.3", we get 44,604,000 square inches. We can convert this to square feet by dividing the number of square feet by the square inches in a square foot. Since a square foot is one foot by one foot, or 12 inches by 12 inches, there are 144 square inches in a square foot. Dividing our previous answer by 144 will give us 309,750 square feet.

Converting to square metres. An inch is defined as 2.54 centimetres ("cm"). Thus, there are 2.54cm x 2.54cm in a square inch or 6.4516cm^2 in a square inch.

Using the 44,604,000 square inches we got above, and multiplying this by 6.4516, we get 287,767,166.4 square cm. There are 100 cm in a metre, so there are 100cm x 100cm in a square metre. So there are 10,000 square centimetres in a square metre. I get 28,776.7 square metres.

There are 3.280839895 feet in a metre. So there are 3.280839895 x 3.280839895, or 10.76391042 square feet in a square metre. Taking 309,750 square feet and dividing by the 10.76391042 we get 28,776.7 square metres.

There are several ways to do this.
We can choose either inches or feet as our base.
Let's do the case in inches.
Let's say the measurements are 5'2" by 2'4".
Step 1 - Convert everything into inches, so multiply the feet by 12 and add the inches. 5'2" becomes 5x12+2 = 62". Similarly, with 2'4" 2x12+4 = 28".
Step 2 - Calculate the area in square inches. 62" x 28" = 1736 square inches.
Step 3 - Convert square inches into square feet by dividing the number of square inches by 144 (12" x 12"). I get 12.06 square feet.

Let do the case in feet using the same measurements.
Step 1 - convert everything into feet. Since there are 12" in a foot, divide the inches by 12 and add to the feet. 5'2" becomes 5 + 2/12 = 5.16'. Similarly, 2'4" becomes 2 + 4/12 = 2.33'.
Step 2 - calculate the area in square feet. 5.16' x 2.33' = 12.02 square feet.
Step 3 - Convert the square feet to square inches by multiplying the answer in square feet by the number of square inches in a square foot (144). Imagine a square 12" by 12". 12.02 square feet x 144 = 1730 square inches.

Note that I have rounded my answers, thus, they are not equal. To avoid this, keep the answer in your calculator and round only at the end.

If you are working this as a simple math problem, here is the solution. Each block is 8" x 16", which is an area of 128 square inches. A square foot is 144 square inches (12 x 12). Thus 185 square feet equals 185 x 144 or 26640 square inches. TO determine the number of blocks required, we divide the block size in square inches into the total area 26640/128 = 208.125. Thus, it would take 209 blocks to do the job. 209 blocks at $1.22 each = $254.98.

Now, if you are REALLY doing this job and need an accurate cost, you need to specify what the actual height and width of the area is to properly determine the number of blocks because 185 square feet can be any rectangular shape and may not come out to an even block height or width. Thus, the cost may vary considerably.
