Microwave installation I can't see how to remove an old Kenmore microwave. Model 564.8568511. It isn't bolted through the cabinet above like modern installations. It almost looks like the metal shell must have been screwed to the surrounding cabinet and then the rest of the oven slid into it. Does that make sense? If so how do I release the oven and slide it back out? Thanks, Don

I have an old 1980's GE Spacemaker and can not figure out how to get it out to replace it. There are 4 bolts attached at the four corners to the upper cabinet but when I removed them, thinking the oven will then tilt forward and come out off the bracket, it did not budge. I've tried to shimmy it and pull on it - nothing. What else is holding this on?

    Please Help!!!

    Thanks,

    Jeff

I have same problem a lapipp. can't get out old Magic Chef II . took out top four thru screws, but unit won't tilt out from under cabinet over the stove. How to get it off the backing plate??

A professional installer just left after telling me he cannot remove my GE Profile Spacemaker microwave to install a new one. It seems that the cabinet above and the granite backsplash below won't allow him to tilt the old one forward to get it out. If he takes it apart piece by piece (which he said he can do), he'll have the same problem getting a new one in its place. Apparently the brackets are made so that the microwave tilts down first and then slides in.

He said I'd have to either take a piece out of the granite OR buy a microwave with the kind of brace that will allow the installer to just slide it straight forward without having to tilt it first.

    Has anyone had this problem?

I'm a kitchen remodeler, and I've seen this problem with Kenmores (so it probably exists with some other brands too. The ones I have seen have the typical bolts through the top, but there's more. The flat mounting plate on the wall has an protruding piece that fits well into the body of the microwave when the unit is slid into place. It has a threaded hole in the end of the extension, and the sheet metal screw or bolt that goes into this is causing your anguish. To access this, you must remove the top front louvers (maybe some other trim plates as well). You'll eventually find the bolt that unscrews with a horizontal screwdriver. I had the same problem with removing a old Kenmore under cabinet microwave.
You have to remove the grill above the microwave door, three small phillips head screws.Once removed there are two slotted long screws that attatch to the back plate.Unscrew the two screws and the microwave will drop right down like on a hinge.

Just did a Kenmore SpaceSaver 300 and had the same problem. Removed the pop-off grill above the door. There is a bracket on each side that has 3 screws. Removed the upper one and the entire microwave slides forward on rails and can be removed. Then the casing can be removed from the wall.

Hi there - just figured out how to get mine out. Here is what I did. There are two screws at the top under the faceplate. There is brace on each side with 2 screws on the bottom and one facing out. Remove the two that face out. Next look under the unit and there is a brass looking cover with 2 more screws. Mine had writing on it about servicing professionally. Remove that two screws, the two power connections and the unit should slip right out.

Want to remove an old jenn air microwave Model # M438B. Removed the screws in the cabinet above but its not budging. What do I do?

There are probably a couple of long bolts still holding it to the brackets on the back wall.

These long bolts are usually accessed through the removeable grill on the front of the microwave.

Just pop off the front plastic grill and then unscrew the bolts underneath. Be sure you have someone to support the full weight of the microwave when you do this since it will probably drop down once you remove these 2 long bolts.

How do i take microwave off wall i took 2 bolts off in cupboard above microwave and microwave did not budge at akk.

There should be two or three bolts inside of the cabinet above the microwave. Remove all bolts and then pull top edge of microwave forward (away from wall). It pivots on a mounting plate which is secured on the wall. Pivot forward and lift microwave up a little bit off of the ledge of the rear mounting plate.

Make sure to feed the electric wire (plug) through the hole in the cabinet as you pivot and remove the microwave. Sometimes cooking grease will make the microwave stick to the cabinet. So after removing the bolts use gentle force when pulling on the microwave.fce1346.jpg
I hope this helps and good Luck!

Remove a whirlpool over the range microwave oven

Jim here. In cabinet above microwave, locate 2 mounting bolts.
Place a box on the stove top to support the microwave once the mounting bolts are removed (you may wish to cover the box with a thick towel or small throw rug).
Procedure:
1. Unplug microwave.
2. Remove both mounting bolts from top of microwave (they secure it to the overhead cabinet).
3. With microwave front angled down onto box, pull some of power cord out of hole (to provide some moving space).
4. With microwave hand supported, remove box from stove top (a second set of hands would be helpful here).
5. HARD PART- detach top of microwave back from wall mounting plate by placing a hand under the bottom rear of the microwave and pushing up. (Wall mounting plate is screwed into the wall behind the microwave and provides both top and bottom support to the back of the microwave.)
6. Lower front of microwave until you can see about a 1-inch clearance between the top-rear of the microwave and the cabinet above it.
7. Firmly lift the microwave straight up and then bring forward. It should be free of the wall mounting plate.

I can't find bolts or screws that hold the unit in place. I need to remove the microwave in order to install new one.

HI there,

Here's HOW;

  1. Remove the face plate above the door.
  2. There were 2 bolts in which you will need a screw driver to loosen it
  3. This bolts go all the way to the back of the microwave.
  4. You still need to remove the one - three screws that's above of the cabinet. You may have to jar it loose if it still stuck.
Hope this helps.

Let me know for further instructions.

Removing under cabinet GE microwave

Remove the face plate above the door. You will see two bolts where you can use a screwdriver to turn them (unlock them). Those bolts go all the way to the back of the microwave. Once you have turned them (you do not need to remove them), you will need to remove the one - three screws that come in from the cabinet above. You may have to jar it loose if it still stuck.
