I am told the light is very dim. Is this a sign the lamp is going bad?
From the first moment it is used, the lamp in a projector is losing lumens (a measure of light). Most projectors' lamps are good for 1500 to 2000 hours of use. Even at the halfway point, a significant dimming can be noticed.

If you do not have many hours on the lamp, you may have a defective lamp and should seek some sort of compensation from Mitsubishi or whatever retailer you purchased the projector.

The XL8U will tell you when the lamp needs replacement. There is a yellow box that will appear telling you so. The lamp is easy to replace, the model number is VLT-XL8LP.
