The printer has detected a short circuit in a cartridge.
Lexmark has placed an LED notification panel on the printers to allow the technical teams to easily
interpret the device's errors. The notification lights can indicate problems such as:
low ink toner level in the printer Life warning of the printer's Photo Conductor kit.
The ink cartridge errors in the printer Until the counter is replaced,
the printer will not print paper jamming.

The flashing light could
indicate either a communication problem between one of your cartridges and the
printer, a short in one of the cartridges, paper jam or the cartridge carrier
has stalled. Please follow the steps below to fix the problem:
1. Remove the sheets of
paper from the feeder. Make sure there are no foreign objects or debris in the
feeder.
2. Open the printer
cover and remove both the cartridges.
3. While the cover is
open, ensure there are no paper jams and the cartridge carrier is free from
obstructions.
4. Close the printer
cover.
5. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where
the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after
30 seconds.
6. When the printer
turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.
7. Close the printer
cover and check the light status.
8. If light on printer
is normal, open the printer cover and reinsert the other cartridge. Check the
light status.
9. Replace whichever
cartridge is causing the light to flash with a new cartridge. You can also try
to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is
faulty.
10. Load some paper. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.
- type in "NET START
SPOOLER" (this will restart the print spooler service)
Try to print again.
Toner light is ON, I would assume that the light is solid and not blinking. You can press and release to clear the light sequence and continue processing the print job. With the printer turned off, remove the toner cartridge and shake it to extend its life. Check the replacement toner cartridge if it is the one suitable for your region.
If the blinking light is on Toner Low, press and release the Continue button (green button) to clear the light sequence and continue processing the print job. If the light is still blinking, the photoconductor is almost full and should be replaced.

Printer light blinking there is no obstruction and ink cartridge is properly inserted
Printer light blinks as soon as power is switched on, whether connected to computer or not. It's a continuous blinking. No response to power button at all. Opening the front cover has no effect- the cartridges don't slide into view like they should. Nothing prints, although the computer can see the printer and will send documents to it.
Also, my printer is actually a Lenovo 3000 series installed on Vista. Since this blinking light appeared, both my Vista and my linux laptop see the printer as a Lexmark 640. These printers may be the same model under different badges, but reinstalling the Lenovo driver from the CD doesn't make any difference, nor does installing the correct Lexmark drivers from the Lexmark website.
