No response to any button on remote or tv except power button
The remote control and the TV buttons all quit working except for the power buttons. The power button on the remote will turn off the picture first, then you have to push it a few more times to get the sound to go off. The buttons on top of the TV won't work either, except the power button which turns it off completely. (the power button on the remote actually only sets it to standby. The power button on the TV actually turns it completely off.) The TV is an iLo flat screen HDMI connected to the satellite box with an HDMI connection. The TV is only about 2 years old. I changed the batteries first thing. Then tried the buttons on top of the TV which had never been used before. Nothing happens, I can't adjust the volume, switch to another input like the DVD player or the Tuner with composite or component...I am baffled.
Update to last post: I have been searching the internet and finding case after case of this same problem. I happened upon a posting on one of the sites from a person who works for the service center for the ilo. They are not the manufacturer, so don't call them and start giving them a piece of your mind, because it isn't their fault, they just fix the problems. The lady I spoke with was very friendly and helpful. She said that this is a known problem with ilo, but not by any means something that happens to all of them. They, however are aware of it and know exactly what has to be done to fix it. Since my set is out of warrenty and it would cost me a lot to send mine from Florida to California, she recommended I take it to a local repair shop and give them the toll free number below for parts and directions on how to fix it. Appearently is a board that has to be replaced...anyway the number is 800-216-5156, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mon-Fri. Please, remember, it is not the manufacturers number, only the repair center that does their warrenty work and it isnt their fault!

P.S. I forgot to mention, the service center lady said the circuit board costs around $125 and the new remote to go with that circuit board is another $30 or so. Of course that doesn't include shipping costs for the parts or labor charges from the repair place.

If they knew this was a problem then there should've been some kind of warning. I bought the television because it was inexpensive and I didn't have the money to spend on one of the top brands. Now they're saying it's going to cost me even more money to get it to work. $125 for a circuit board and another $30 for a remote? It sort of defeats the purpose. If I knew it was going to be this much of a problem, I would've held out and bought a more expensive one. This is horrendous that after everything is said and done, I could've bought a GOOD one for what it's costing me to fix this crappy one.

For my universal remote control's manual, all of the VIZIO codes are:
11758
13758
12757
Also, remember that you can have the remote scan for codes on its own. On the remote just hold the "TV" control button (should be at the top near the power button) and the power button turns on. Then hold the power button too, and it shuts back off; keep holding until it turns back on and then it will stay on. Then, point the remote at the TV (it should be on) and press the power button every three seconds. It will test a code every two or three seconds. When your TV finally shuts itself off in response, you've got the right code and the remote should work.
For my universal remote control's manual, all of the Samsung codes are:

10178

You didn't specify if you are trying to program the remote to your TV or receiver. Is it a replacement remote or did it just quit working? I have provided instructions on how to program to your TV or receiver.
Address to receiver: Remote: All Other Remotes
Go to System Info screen (depending on receiver - press System Info button on receiver panel or pull smart card out till System Info screen appears on TV screen).
Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.
Press the pound (#) button.
Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record.
Note: If successful, the number selected in step 3 will
appear in the System Info screen under Remote Address.
Remote: Basic Remote (Television Only)
Turn the Television On.
Press and hold the TV Power button for three seconds until the LED flashes.
Press and release the TV Power button.
Press and release the Up or Down Arrow on the remote until the television
turns off.
After the television turns off, press and release the OK button.
Test functionality with the TV.
Return to Step 2 if the remote is not able to turn the TV On/Off, change the
volume and mute the television.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or problems. Thanks.
The remote control is an acess to the TV device for example only from a distance. A remote controll for functionality would require to insert batteries a power source making possible communiction with devices requiring reception transmittion of signals. The remote is handheld pointed to the direction of TV requiring signal before button pressed woudl achieve response. a common button to start the remote control experience is pressing on the power button, that displays a signal on the TV. The TV should momentarily produce a sound and lighting effect,, and displaying on the dark screen a light blue screen. The initial signal response from remote control to TV indicates devices are functioning as required. Additional buttons on the remote controll could perform functions of several available.
The remote control has master button, menu on which every additional function is deriveable. Once the menu button is pressed with remote pointed in the direction of TV, should dicplay a list of options on the blue screen already established by power button. Every additional remote control device functionality is achievable by only after the first two buttons have been powered and pressed to display option results on a screen of TV. The remote controll buttons remaining perform complementary functionalities. For example, the arrow keys on remote control make movement of the options displayed on the screen, where a comfrimation button or identified as select allows to confirm remote functions displayed on the screen. A remote control could have several functionalities only accessible once made to display in screen. The three most common buttons on a remote control are First power button that powers on the TV, menu button that displays a list of functionalities on the powered on bl;ank blue screen, and using the arrow buttons on the remote would moves an indicator arround the screen area options. The selection button makes confrimation of the option.
From GUEST: I found this solution in the manual and will perform this task again to see if I can get the tv will be re-recognized again. Give this a try, too.
Remote will not turn on or shut off the TV.
• You must program the converter box remote in order to control your TV power button.
• To program the remote control:
Determine if the TV is a model that can be controlled by the remote control. See "Controllable TV brands" on page 17 in the manual.
Turn on the TV.
While you press and hold TV POWER on the remote control, press CH ^ or CH v one or more times until the TV turns off. Each time you press one of these buttons, the remote control sends a manufacturer code (between 1 and 45) to the TV.
When the timer light stoped flashing the remote control would not turn on the TV. The next time the light quit flashing I held the power button in on the TV for about 5 seconds and it came on and has had no problems since then with the remote or the local TV power button.
There is most likely dirt below membrane preventing contact. Remove batteries, open it up, wash rubber membrane in warm water with dish washing detergent, dry it completely. Also, use some alcohol and cotton sticks to clean contact on the remote control board.
