My Brother MFC8440 Wont photo copy very well, the copy comes out light and most of the things are missed, not sure how to fix? Is it the toner or something else?

Have you tried resetting it? I can't remember all the steps, I see some of the other comments have them but just to be sure you didn't miss anything I suggest you download the manual and go step-by-step. You can find one here - Brother HL-2270DW manual

Depending on how many copies you have it might be time for a new drum unit. Also, you can change the settings for the resolution for copies in the main menu. Check Menu--Copy--Quality and make sure it is not set on Photo. This would definitely **** up toner as it would print at the highest resolution rather than the default resolution.

Brother will not sell to end users, contact a Brother Dealer in your area.

Check your copy option,constrast to high and quility to Auto.
after that should be fine.

This is commonly a problem with the left hinge being broken on the lid where the adf is. Check that and if it is broken i can give you a part number.

If it is a real genuine Brother toner. Not a reman. You may also need to change the drum. If you have a user manual, it will show you where the drum life setting is in the menu structure. Make sure the little glass window inside on the right is clean so it can read the toner level. Make sure the toner save feature is turned off.

Clean your laser window on the bottom of the interior of the machine.

The only other common options can be are the contacts of the drum. They can become bent and not give good contact. Bend them back.

When the laser fails it will also become light but it will stay light once it is going.

Check the stupid things - once I had a customer change the toner and not take the tapes off. Had similar symtoms to your problem.

Likely thing is that you have a faulty toner cartridge return it to the store and ask for a replacement in exchange as yours is faulty. IF this does not cure the fault then maybe the drum unit causing the fault and this may need replacing.
