Lcd tv fault finding

LG 42LG5000 4 years old When switched on left-hand side of screen dark and muddy looking, sometimes with ghost of previous images and with white horizontal lines stretching half way across the screen. After 10-15 minutes this clears up and picture becomes perfect. Usually stays like this for rest of viewing session but sometimes goes back to earlier state. Again, may clear up after a while. I suspect poor connection/operating temperature related fault. Any suggestions, please?

VIZIO 42in LCD HDTV - Dark colors and flickering

It sounds that the back-light CCFL lamp is faulty. It is time to replace it. When replacing, do it to all CCFLs, because, the life time to these lams are expiring now, as the set is nearly 4 years old. Check this link http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ to get more details about how to replace the CCFLs. Pull up older posts there. Some among it have details.

Half the screen flickers and go's out on the left side

the short answer is you need a new lcd screen

the long answer is you have a fault with your lcd screen and if you take it apart you will find what are known as tabs connecting the glass part of the screen to the controller boards by manipulating these tabs you can cure your lcd fault

( note to get this far i assume you know what your doing and have already stripped the unit down to leave just the screen and the boards to control it including taking off the metal rimband of the screen itself )

with the screen upside down and tabs facing you you should be able to turn the tv on and find out what tab is faulty by gently pressing on each tab untill the fault goes away once you see any kind of movement of the fault you have touched the correct tab ( usually the first tab on the left hand side of the tv as you look at it in its current service position ) or the right hand side of the screen if its standing upright on its base

there are many methods of lcd screen repair used at this point . some use hot glue guns to hold the tab in place some use super glue others use heat resistant pads that you will find in any tv repair shop usually attached to the back of a high heat board

the only way to 100% cure the tab is by computerised laser & microscope

but you can do a good job fixing your tab by just flying blind and making up the connection again

what you use to hold the tab in place is your choice just dont use anything that reacts with heat or is conductive and could cause a fire

good luck to you ...

please dont forget your other option is simply to replace the lcd screen

IHave a32 inch lcd tv its only two years 10months old and a dark shadow has appeared don right side screen

All these sets use two boards (most) inside----one drives the picture left side and the other right side----sounds like your problem.

Contact LG (you listed it here as the brand) to see if this is a known issue with your model and if even if out of warranty do something.

It does not hurt to ask.
