Has been working normally for months and then about 20 minutes ago, it made a noise as if it was about to shut off and remained that way for several minutes. I went to check on it and there was no water in the bucket after running for about 3 hours. I put the empty bucket back in and turned it on, it still sounded like it was about to shut off. I turned it off again, took out the bucket and water started dripping quite rapidly onto the floor. Any ideas?

I have a Windchaser dehumidifier Model WDH928. The problem is that it does not automatically shut off when the tank is full. The water just flows over the tank and out. I've had this for years and it...

The float valve sensor in the bucket is either stuck in the down position or has broken entirely. Accessing the interior of the tank is the only way to know. I would recommend that you use a continual drain hose, but that is not recommended, as the coils need some water in the tank to cool.

The real downside is, that Windchaser has been out of business (phones disconnected, website down, etc) for several months and parts are extremely had to find.

I hope I was of some help to you. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

The humidifier does not collect water at all

Hi,the lack of water in the bucket, may be a result of the humidity setting on the unit being to high. Try setting the level at 45% or lower. Also, be sure there's adequate air flow around the unit itself. It should remain a minimum of 12' from a wall or furniture. 24" is better.

If the above doesn't solve the problem, try this at home test. Place the unit in the bathroom, turn it ON and set the level as low as possible. Turn the shower ON hot enough to generate steam. Do not turn ON the bathroom's exhaust fan. As you exit the bathroom, close the door. Wait 15 to 20 minutes, before returning to the bathroom. When you do, turn the shower OFF and allow the unit to run for several more minutes. Then check the bucket for water. If there is any sign of water in it, it's working fine. It was probably a case of the humidity level being set to high the first time.

If there was no water in the bucket, the refrigerant gas in the cooling coils and the compressor may need recharging.

Hope this helped your to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

I bought a Kenmore dehumidifier a 2 weeks ago and it sounds like it is going to come one but then goes off - listening to it right now and it has been doing this for the last 15 minutes. Is this normal? ...

If you bought it 2 weeks ago, take it back and get a new one. A humidifier works kind of like an air conditioner, but a humidifier runs a larger Delta-T across the coil. In laymans wording, an HVAC unit might have a temperature split across the coil of 20 degrees where the temperature split across a humidifier might be 40 to 50 degrees. The reason for this is with a larger Delta-T, you are able to drop the air temperature across the coil and by doing this, your basically wringing the water out of the air. Because of this, it has safetys that a standard HVAC unit would not have. It usually has 2 low pressure switchs rather than one and it sounds like it might be tripping on one of them from lack or airflow or a low charge. Take it back and get a new one!!

The dehumidifier's fan does not turn and makes a humming noise

first, make sure the fan blade hasn't gotten stuck on the shroud and cannot turn, then shut off machine and by-hand rotate fan and see if it spins to a stop after several rotations,if it stops quickly there is a bearing problem with the motor, this is normal after many years of service, then replace the motor

I have a Goldstar GHD30 dehumidifer that I bought used last week. It's pulling 20-30 pints of water each day out of my basement so it appears to be working. The compressor only runs for 1-2 minutes at a...

yes cycles should be longer either that or the unit is keeping close to desired humidity. Also the unit is under sized 30 pint is for 400sqft. or 20 by 20 room. humidity should be 30/50 percent check your level desired room temp is 70 degrees but its a basemnt 60 works.
