Advent DVD player can't read the dvd. Keeps saying bad disc

Dear Stephanie,

Check at the rear of your DVD player or in its manual which region is it set to. It has a symbol that resembles a globe with a number inside.

In the U.S., players are set for region 1. Latin America and Australia for region 4. Europe and Middle East for region 2 and so on. Please check: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

Maybe you are trying to use a DVD for region 2 (from Europe) in a DVD player in U.S., that only accepts region 1 discs. Please, check the label on your DVD or the back of its box.

Another reason could be that you are trying to play a recorded DVD in a format that is not read by your device, like DVD-R or DVD+R.

either a dirty optical pickup (reads the discs) or a bad one.

The READ head is dirty or damaged...very difficult to get to the back of TV to disassemble DVD player.. clean read (light diode) head with light cleaning fulid or don't take apart & use official cleaning DVD disc. Look on web site for CD\dvd cleaning disc.It looks like a CD but has 'fuzz' or a very thin " rug" on 'read' side of disc.

pls check ur optical pickup

change the motor belt charge it´s located downside the disc tray

clean your dvd lens with dvd disc cleaner.

This is due to faulty DVD lens/head. Try cleaning it with DVD/CD hed cleaning CDs.If still the problem persists, contact near by service center for replacing the faulty Lens.

Get hemastats or a thin pair of tweezers and have at it.

you could try getting a lens cleaning disc and run that in the dvd player,could be a little dust on the lens that reads the disc.

Is the disc an original DVD or copied. If it is copied and the DVD is old the DVD will not read it and tell that there is no disc. You also need to have the laser checked. Did it do it for a number of disks or just one. If you have only tried one disk, try another
