what you have to do is ejecting the tape, and as soon as it starts to eject , close the door immediately, then safeguard mode should be gone, and you will be able to eject normally.
Hello. What I've found is that in dealing with the error codes your choices are very limited. You can try removing the battery and power supply for a while. This might clear the code, however, failing at that you'll be forced to send in the unit for repair--you are absolutely not alone in getting this type of problem--definitely get a quote first and keep "do I want to replace this unit" in the back of your mind....This is a JVC problem.---Rick
I solved the problem! Open the video cassette door. Look closely at the gear mechanism and see if there is any small debris in the gears. If not, using a magnifying glass and a paper clip(must stretch it out and use the tip) gently move each gear(gently). I had my unit ON. Once I moved the gear it became unstuck and ejected Mini DV cassette. I then re-inserted the cassette and it worked. The dreaded SAFEGAURD MODE message was gone and it is as good as new.
Here's what i found. I was able to clear the message by opening and
closing and ejecting the cassette. I also had to play with the battery
at the same time. Keeping the cassette door open and then pulling out
the battery. After is did this a couple of times i got the message to
clear. I too haven't used my camcorder for some time and now that the
error message has cleared the camcorder tells me that i need to clean
the heads. Hope this helps. Below is the message i found that pointed
me toward ejecting the cassette. An error indication (E03 or E04) appears. - (E03 or
E04 UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE REMOVE AND REATTACH BATTERY) This massage a
malfunction of some kind has occurred. In this case the camcorder's
functions become unusable. - Eject the cassette once and re-insert it,
then check if the indication clears. When it does, you can resume using
the camcorder. If the indication remains, consult your nearest JVC
dealer or service center
that seemed to work every now and then - thank you very much!
Remove battery / power source for few minutes and attache battery / power source again and check.
