As an "Epson Authorized Service Dealer", there's only so much INFORMATION and HELP that I can legally give to you. At least you will know what your SERVICE ERROR CODE is and the possible problems...A "Error Code E3" is a PLATEN GAP ERROR and is classified as a FATAL ERROR: If you don't turn off your printers power with-in 12 seconds, the printer will AUTOMATICALLY power off. If that happens leave your printer turned off for 15 minutes and then you can turn the power back on. If you don't wait for the 15 minutes and just turn your printer off and back on, the power will not come back on...POSSIBLE PROBLEMS: The platen gap home sensor is defective/bad; the platen gap motor is defective/bad; the parallelism adjustment is incorrect; the platten gap adjustment values are incorrect; the platten gap motor pinion is too tight against the platten gap transmission gear...NOT MUCH HELP I KNOW AND NOT MUCH YOU CAN NORMALLY DO...If you happen to have an AIR COMPRESSOR you might want to take your printer outside and blow out all the DUST/DIRT/LINT/HAIR and small pieces of paper, that normally build-up inside most DOT MATRIX PRINTERS. Just be sure the AIR PRESSURE can be adjusted down to around 50 or 60 lbs of pressure, or you might damage or blow out some parts. After that you can perform any general cleaning that you think might help [wiping off built up grease/dirt/dust/etc] and then simply try your printer to see if you have the same problem, or not...Good Luck! Hi. Canon says this E, 3 Paper jam. If paper has jammed in the machine, clear the jam, reload the paper in the machine correctly and then press the Black or Color button.
There is another step to fix this, also from canon. Issue: ERROR LED: E, 3 Solution: Press ON/OFF switch to reset the multifunction device
Reset the device when it is not functioning properly.
If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)
Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.
Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.
Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

The E3 eeror is a paper jam error.
First, Unplug the printer from the power cord. Disconnect the printer cable as well.
2nd, open the covers and using a flashlight, look for any small debris inside the printer. The smallest piece can trip the error. Remove anything you find.
Next, get some "canned air" at any computer or office supply store and blow the inside of the printer thoroughly. You may even turn it upside down so debris can fall out.
Plug it back in to the wall socket and connect to your PC again and give it a try. That should resolve the issue.
