Hi there - these are older posts, but I just experienced this problem (it appears to be pretty common). The fix I discovered (that works), is to insert your batteries (make sure they're fresh), and then press and hold the "on" button plus "Menu" button, together at the same time. Hold until the firmware resets (a message will pop up on screen and the camera will reset). Voila! It works again for as long as the batteries are in and operational. Also note that in my case, if the batteries are taken out, I have to go thru the reset process again, but at least I have the camera back up and running. Hope this helps others!!

The battery could actually have been depleted. This happens if the battery does not have enough power to playback images or take a picture. If the batteries are exhausted, the battery indicator can still indicate full power.

So first try to clean the battery contacts using a pencil eraser. If this fails to help you, buy a new battery.

After i turn on my Optio E10, it shuts off right away even after i put in new batteries.

Sounds like a memory card problem. Try using A 512mb San Disk SD Card. Not a San Disk SDHC card. see if that doesn;t help you out. Good-Luck

I have the Pentax Optio M20 which was in perfect condition when I bought it. I always took care of it and left it on nice room temperatures. I had this camera for only about 9 months when it started to not...

Are you saying the batteries are not depleted? You've checked them? The camera should be under warranty. If I were you, I would go to the Pentax website, click on support and then on live chat to type back and forth with a technician who can either solve the problem or tell you what your next step should be.

Camera optio e40 pentax shows the battery life as depleted even tho they are new batteries I have tried any new AA batteries 1.5 then I tried rechargagles at 1.2 for digital cameras.

this is not malfunction.
According to its manual, just turn it off ,wait for one minute and
turn it on again. It'll reset th camera. You need to reset the date/time.

Power problem

Try cleaning the battery contacts in the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

My Pentax Optio M20 will not turn on.

Make sure the batteries are good. If the batteries are brand new, then it must be something with the camera, and you should take it in and have it looked at. Good luck.

Pentax Optio M20

Maybe.
But it does seem to be a lens problem. Possibly the lens is out of sync as mentioned in another post here.If there is a grinding, the lens is probably damaged by dirt or sand.
Make sure the batteries or battery is fully charged.
