Where is the LCD backlight inverter on an Inspiron

What condition is the Video Cable in? (Dell = Display Cable)
Continuity check with a multimeter prove it to be OK?

[LED backlighting, no screen Inverter used; for those who may think it is a screen Inverter problem ]

justinbur167 it's a WXGA screen. I don't know if yours is Glossy, or a Matte finish.

You'll note that offerings list With Inverter, and Without, also Glossy, or Matte finish.

[An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. A Backlight is used to provide the additional needed light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a Much smaller scale.

An Inverter is used to invert power from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and the Backlight ]

Try attaching an external monitor to the laptop & see if you could get any display on it. If this is successful, then you might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp

This might be a sign of a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. Test with an external monitor attached to the laptop. If you get display on the external monitor, then this confirms the case.

It seems to me the inverter is busted. That is why the backlight just went out. If you are still covered by your warranty Dell technical support will replace the inverter and i believe they will also include the LCD kit.

I've had the same problem with a Dell Lattitude D531. I've been told that it's the screen itself (which may have led to the original inverter going bad) but that one should also check to make sure none of the screws are making contact with any wires back there.

It's a faulty backlight (screen).
Replace screen (same dell part number) with inverter, otherwise screen can be dark.
Here is how Dell part number looks (green):

You need a new lcd screen & while at it replace the inverter.

no.. its the backlight or the inverter.. both located at bottom edge of lcd under plastics.. the backlight is a mini fluorecent light tube in the lcd dotn try to fix it its hard. the inverter u can fix . inverter is easier and its 25$ in ebay
