What happens when you try to change the exposure mode by turning the exposure dial? Try setting it to the green AUTO mode. Any change?

No Change :( I've managed to 'partially connect' it to the laptop but it's not recognising it as a drive. My idea was to try and update the firmware as I've never done it and I hoped it may help?

  • Mick Wyldbore-Wood Oct 01, 2013

It seems to get more life if I leave the camera on. I can depress the button and the lens will auto focus, there is more info on the display but won't take photos? I was hoping I could do a 'factory reset' kind of thing?

Pentax K10D shake reduction switch broken

Hi,
Repairing the camera is little bit tough for a end user but it can be repaired in any service center as it is a Pentax k10D I will recommend you to keep this camera because this days getting a Japan made camera is as tough as getting water in desert.

New SMCP-FA 50 1.4 will not work on my K100D Super or K10D

You are probably right - it sounds like it is not connecting right - I would take it and the camera to the store and check out another lens!

I BOUGHT A PENTAX K10D THAT CAME WITH A VERY NICE AUTO ZOOM LENS. I OWN SEVERAL OLDER PENTAX LENSES THAT I USED ON MY K1000 CAMERA AND I WANT TO USE THEM ON THE K10D. I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE SETTINGS THAT...

Hello,

I don't own a K10D, but I do own a K100D which I have successfully used both manual focus & auto-focus lenses from my old Pentax stash!

1) If it is a manual focus lens, you need to turn off Autofocus on the body of your K10D. On my K100D, there is a switch on the side of the lens mount that says [-MF or -AF]. "-MF" is manual focus mode & "-AF" is autofocus mode. Since your lens doesn't have autofocus capability, turn it to the "-MF" mode.

Also . . . When I press "Menu" and go to "Custom Setting", I change two settings . . .

1) I change "Using aperture ring" to "Permitted". This allows you to use manual lenses (M lenses) that do not have an auto(exposure) setting, and also lets you use Auto lenses (A, KA, KA2, FA, etc.) in either the Auto or manual aperture setting modes.

2) I change "Fl with S lens used" so that even with a manual focus lens, although I don't have autofocus capability, my K100D beeps and shows a little red square in the viewfinder when I have successfully focused manually!

The K10D should have the same options.

This should get you up and running!

I have had a load of fun with my old lens on my new digital Pentax!

Take care & Happy Imaging!

Pentax K10D won't work with lens from Pentax K100 (film0

The lenses are probably manual focus lenses,
  1. Make sure that the apature ring is set to 'A' or automatic,
  2. if these are manual focus lenses then switch the focus switch on the left side of the camera body to MF
  3. If this still doesn't work, or you are having trouble with the apature ring then press the menu button to go to the  menu then press the right arrow key untill you are in the  Custom Settings, scroll through the custom settings with the up and down arrow keys until about the 2nd from bottom there is an option called "using aperture ring" set this to 2 (Permitted) This will make the camera take a image when lens is on any f-stop manually.
Try this and everything should work fine. If all this hasn't worked then try seting the mode dial on the camera to M manual mode. Cheers

Pentax K10D Both LCD screens are blank

Did you put a memory card in the camera?
My camera did this today, and I resolved it by putting a memory card in, but even when one has been out before it still turned on, so I'm not sure that is the resolution. Did you ever find out what was causing it?
