The problem is likely, as you might have guessed, with the computer's battery. If the computer is stock from Lenovo, I would first go about contacting them; I'm sure they would be happy to replace the battery free of charge if it's really as bad as you say it is. If not, you've got much more of a problem on your hands. While disassembling and fixing a battery yourself is occasionally possible, it is nonetheless NEVER recommended, not to mention this is not one of those times when it's likely to be possible. The structure of a lithium ion battery is actually relatively complex; it's hard to know exactly what's wrong, and if you don't manage to injure yourself in the process of fixing it, there's a high chance the battery would cease working entirely after you got it back together.

So, unfortunately, it looks like you're going to need a new battery. I know it sucks, but I seriously don't recommend trying to fix it yourself.

Also: If the battery isn't integrated into the laptop, you may be able to buy a new standalone battery. If it is, that may be difficult, if not impossible. If you can find a new integrated battery online, replacing the old one on your own is not out of the question, but there may be soldering involved. As long as you're comfortable with that.

Anyway, good luck. If anything was unclear, I'd be happy to make it not so, just give the word. ;-)

SOURCE: shut down problem

Hi,

The notebook switches off because the battery has not been properly replenished/recharged. probable problem may be with the battery itself, the AC adapter/charger or the plug/jack.

Common causes of similar problems are a loose connection or a cold solder on the DC jack at the end of the laptop. In some instances, it could be the actual charger/AC adapter that may be at fault. This however could be verified with the use of a voltmeter measuring the DC voltage at the output plug. As to the DC jack, it would be more of a concern opening the laptop and exposing the underneath of the motherboard (where the solder are) rather than the actual repair which is soldering. Incidentally, there are cases where the terminals/pins of the DC jack might have been cut off hence a replacement may be required. Perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: What is the battery back up time for the Lenova R61 series lap to

The bottom of the creen shows a tak bar, unless of couse you have been fiddling with settings. It should show you the batterystate, I would sugest you wait until your battery is 100% fully chaged and time it. Cos I do not know as to how you use your mechine.

SOURCE: acer 5002 laptop shutoff randomly

Try to cool the laptop in the sense, do not use it for some time, approx two three hrs then try to re install...
But if your laptop is old then the problem could be because the fans working beneath get old and do not run upto the mark..usually they have two fans i believe...maybe one is conked?

Hope this helps

I'm not sure of your charging regiem but it is possible that you hav not let the batteries become disscharged before they back on the charger, short cycling particular batteries gives them a memory and reduces their life significantly. Most rechargeable batteries have a life of so many cycles, just say its 100 cycles. If you put on charge when battery is only down to 80% and charge it up this counts as 1 cycle. Therefore your battery life would be reduced to 20% of what its capable of. This is only true if short cycling the chargeing of the battery is frequent. Not knowing exactly what your charging habits are or the age of them makes it a guess from me. It otherwise might be a fault in your charging circuit which would require specialist diagnosis.
