The problem will be on the other side under and just to the right of the steering column. This is kind of a pain to repair. Pull the lower cover off from under the steering column. Watch the lever on the hvac case move as you click the position switch to defrost and back. It most likely is hanging up and not moving into defrost position. Reach up there and just move the lever or arm a little and it will probably finish it's movement. The arm has worn to a point where it has a little slot in it that is preventing or stopping the movement. I have repaired this but you gotta watch it several times. The lever is spring loaded so you need to watch closely or you won't get it back together right. I got the thing out and smoothed the worn place where the lever started working again. It's not real easy to get out so be careful. Can't really tell you anymore than that.
It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. If you have a vacuum leak it will cause the air to only come out of the defrost vent no matter what you have the controls set to. Hope this helps you out and gives you some place to start looking.
you have leak in a vacuum line or the vacuum resivior canister it self is leaking start by finding the vacuum source on the intake manifold..the hose will run through the engine firewall to the inside controls. sorry i dont have a diagram but should be one under the hood.look for a hose thats cracked, loose or off you may also hear vacuum leak.
An oil leak can be from almost anywhere. One good place to start is to make sure your oil filter is tight. Oil pressure sending units do go bad and can leak a good amount of oil. Then there is the rear main seal that sometimes leaks and of coarse the oil pan. The best thing to do is to raise the front of the car up and put it on stands, start the engine and slide under to see where its actually leaking.
Take the cover from under the steering wheel off and look up inside there where the motors and levers are that change the flow of air. I've worked on many of these and they seem to bind up from one position to another. Watch it move as you turn the knob from defrost to vent to floor. It may just need a little lube.
It could be the switch, but they are usually pretty reliable. Its probably in the linkage on the door motors. Take the panel off below the steering wheel and look up in there as you switch from defrost to vent to floor. See if you can help it switch by applying a little pressure on the linkages and I think you'll find your problem.
There is a actuator servo not working, check for a vacuum not connected,or broken,or sucked together, under the hood, look for a plastic vacuum line that maybe broken, this is a vacuum problem. If this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.
There is a vacuum problem under the hood, look where it goes into the firewall and follow it,there will be a check valve in the vacuum hose, and it could be broken,or the hose is melted into,or the vacuum hose has disconnected.
this is very common problem, theres a vacuum leak.check the vacumm lines under the hood also check the one that goes inside to heater controls, whats happening is that it looses vacuum when you accel because the motor takes it,theres a one way valve that holds the vaccum when this happens but with a leak it cant hold vacuum, heres a vacuum diagram to help you check the vacuum lines,i dont know which engine you have in that 150 but this will be close. take good look at the circled areas in the diagrams, good luck, hope this helps you.
The controls on your Astro are operated by vacuum from the engine. Because vacuum drops as the throttle is opened to maintain vacuum to those controls a vacuum reservoir is used. You have a leaking vacuum line causing your problem. Look for a black line about 1/8th inch diameter coming out of the cab on the left side into the engine bay. You will have to look under the cowl over the engine and you will likely find a rotten piece of plastic vacuum line. Cut the old plastic well back as it will break again soon from heat.Get a piece of rubber vacuum line from your local auto supply that will slide snugly over the plastic. This is where your problem will be at a 95% probability. If you have any further questions please place them in "add comments" and I will respond to help. Thank you for using FixYa!
