I have a Cool Start remote/alarm. Occassionally, when I lock the car using the key fob, the alarm will go off and I'm not able to turn it off. Eventually it stops but I don't know if that's because at some point in pushing all the possible buttons, I pushed the right one or if it just timed out. By this time it's gotten everyone's attention and totally mortified my mother! I've tried to find an owner's manual but I'm not sure of the model. The fob only says "Cool Start". None of the manuals I've found mention the alarm at all. Can you tell me why this thing goes off on it's own and how I turn it off?

SOURCE: Car Alarm

sounds like the drivers side key switch has failed remove the interior door panel and there will be a switch attached to the back of the key lock cylinder or around there it should be two or three wires also check the door jamb wire harness where the door closes for any broken or damaged wires, use a vot meter and see if you get power or ground to the opposite side of the switch when you use the key to lock and unlock the door if nothing changes and there is power or ground! at this switch i would replace it, i don't think there is one but if the car has a passenger side key hole try to unlock the car from that side and see if you get the same problem -jeff

SOURCE: lotus elise 2005 fob and key does not work

Re-synchronize the FOB if the problem is with just one key.

1. Hold down both buttons simultaneously until the fob LED goes out. (10 seconds)

2. Release both buttons -- the LED should come on and stay on.

3. Press the larger fob button for a second, and the LED should flash.

IF re-synchronization doesn't work, you may have to replace the fob. Call customer service with your PIN (on the key-card that came with the keys). IF you don't have the PIN, then you need to call customeor service to confirm/register your ownership of the car.

If the keys are re-synchronized and it still doesn't work:

Re-program.

1. Re-synchronize as above, if you have not done so.

2. Turn the ignition on 3 times within 7 seconds. The red light above the odometer should light and stay on for 3 seconds.

3. Enter the PIN. Immediately after the red light goes out as per 2 above, switch on the ignition and count the number of flashes until it equals the number of the first digit on your PIN, then turn the ignition off, then on again. Do this for all four numbers.

4. What a pain, but if you get it wrong on a count, then you can restart by turning the ignition off for 10 seconds.

5. After the fourth digit, if the PIN is correct, the red light will stay on. Then you can re-test the fobs, and it should work.

Otherwise, call customer service.

Hope this helps.

I assume the factory alarm was somehow bypassed when they installed the remote start is there a way I can make the factory alarm work when the doors are opened without key,?

To arm content theft alarm.
1. Open the door.
2. Lock the door with the power door lock switch or
the remote keyless entry transmitter. The
SECURITY light should flash.
3. Close all doors. The SECURITY light should go off
after approximately 30 seconds. The alarm is not
armed until the SECURITY light goes off.

If a locked door is opened without the key or the remote keyless entry transmitter, the alarm will go off. The headlamps and parking lamps will flash for two minutes, and the horn will sound for 30 seconds, then will turn off to save the battery power.

Mustang alarm

Ford sold a Ford branded alarm through the parts department. These sometimes were a dealer installed option on new cars. Mine would randomly stop responding to the remote and I would have the same symptoms as you describe. I had it removed and the original equipment factory system still worked. Be warned, if you have the Ford "accessory" alarm, your key fobs (remotes) are different and the method to program them is different from what you will read online. You can tell if you have the system by looking at your key fob. The standard Mustang key fob is a 4 button (lock, unlock, panic, and trunk). The accessory alarm uses a 3 button remote and clicking unlock twice would pop the trunk. I really wish I had a picture of the remote because there are 3 button Ford key fobs for cars without a trunk release although I don't think you should have one on a Mustang. Long story short, if you have the accessory alarm, you can solve your problem by having it removed but you will need new 4 button key fobs to remotely lock/unlock your doors

2003 malibu alarm won't stop

Well when you replaced the battery did anything else on the key fob work? Often times you have to reprogram the remote in order for it to function properly. Try getting inside the vehicle and manually lock all doors with the driver's side switch. Put the master key in the ignition switch and turn the switch to the run position but do not start it. Now push and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time until the locks make noise....may take 10 to 30 seconds. After you have the key fob programmed, see if the alarm will turn off with the remote. Did it work? The only way to totally turn off the alarm is with a GM Tech @ or 3 scan tool and go into body control bidirectional controlling procedures or with a very good aftermarket scanner with good bi-directional functionality.
The alarm works via the body control module on this vehicle and i am thinking it uses the PK2 system and if you do not have a properly coded key or the BCM is loosing memory, then check for any and every blown fuse and replace as needed.to start with.. If the vehicle stays running after starting then the bcm/key is reading correctly.

Imobiliser problem

If im not mistaken, your car should have an alarm reset/override.Below the steering column,on the dash should be a slot where you put your remote transmitter to deactivate the alarm. If that works, you then need to have your remote checked and coded by a vw dealer.Good luck.
