I'm using a Minolta STsi (film) camera for school, but I need to get it off panorama mode. How do I get it to just take normal, full-size frames?

As far as I can tell, the STsi doesn't have a panorama mode; doesn't have any way to take anything but full-frame pictures.

If you need a manual, you may view/download one at http://www.fixya.com/support/p156128-minolta_maxxum_stsi_qd_35mm_slr_camera/manual-15137

My minolta wont load the film

There are contacts that "read" the film. Try cleaning them. If that does not work, check in the manual where to make the ASA in manual mode. That means ever time you load film, you have to check to make sure your ASA of the film matches the camera. If that work, you are good to go. These cameras are from the 90's.

How does one get out of panorama mode?

There's a switch on the side, just above the thing you click to open the door and install film. It says "p" or "Std" -- just turn it to "Std" (standard) instead of "p" (panoramic)

The shutter speed sounds as if it never changes in any of the modes. Is there a way to test the speed other than the picture quality?

Above 1/30th of a second you will not hear any difference due to the way that an SLR camera twin curtain shutter operates.

There are just two tests possible: take the camera to a repair shop for shutter speed testing or just assess the exposures taken when using transparency (slide) film. Assessing the exposure with regular negative film isn't much use as the photo printing machinery can compensate for under or over exposed images.

I somehow put my camera setting onto panorama, how do i change this back to normal?

I think you mean Landscape. Just push the button next to the top display panel. Push it again until it shows the setting you want.
Panorama is not available on the QTsi. Panorama mode blocks out the top and bottom of the frame to give you a shorter picture top to bottom.
Landscape mode just biases the camera towards smaller lens openings to get more of the image in focus. By default, this makes exposure times longer, so use a tripod for landscape images.

I have a Minolta StSi camera. The viewfinder is stuck in the panoramic mode -- it won't go back to standard. The side switch is in STD. Please help! I LOVE this camera!

The linkage may have broken. place the camera on a towel, on a flat, well lit surface. Put the camera on its back. Push the button alongside the lens and turn the lens counterclockwise. Remove the lens and set it aside.look inside the camera mirror area. You will see two flaps that are up against the roof of the mirror area. these flaps block off part of the image giving you panorama.
You may be able to open these flaps by yourself. I suggest nothing stronger than a wooden toothpick. The plastic screen they rest on is very sensitive to scratching.
You can also GENTLY lift the mirror and see if there are similar flaps in front of the film shutter. Move your lever/ side switch to see if the flaps move. I do not suggest trying to move the flaps by the shutter. The shutter is very fragile. One slip and you ruined the camera. Have it repaired by a camera repair shop. Or get yourself another on Ebay. Get a repair estimate before you leave the camera with them. Another STsi body on Ebay may be cheaper.
BTW you can make panorama shots the same way the camera does by cropping your prints. Consider the other cameras in that series HTsi and XTsi as well. The QTsi is very basic but the others offer more features.

Minolta STsi

Maybe it's set on the panoramic mode. On the left hand side right under where the strap thingy is there's a switch that says P ( panoramic ) and STD (standard ). Just switch it to the other mode.

Hope this helps.

Minolta StSi Maxxum

It's the shutter speed. I copied this out of the manual :

The number 60, or 125, displayed in the
data panel stands for 1/60th or 1/125th of a
second.
• Usable apertures will depend on the aperture range of the lens you are using. • The seconds indicator appears in the
viewfinder and data panel if the shutter
speed is one second or longer.

Albeit copy and paste made it fit weird into here.
