TomTom One XL Security Certificate

I am running Home2 with Vista and I can't connect to upgrade or do anything. I get the following message:

home.tomtom.com:443 uses an invalid security certificate.

The certfificate will not be valid until 8/8/2007 at 8:52am

This is the first time I have connected the device to my computer. I have created a TomTom account and have downloaded the most recent version 2.6 from tomtom.com

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: disassemble tomtom xl

Hello,
once you have taken the 4 screws apart, the back cover is attached to the front one with plastic latchs. To open them, the best is to use one nail or a thin piece of plastic. Do not use an screwdriver or any other metallic tool or the covers will be marked. Begin with one of the sides, then the other, then the top (or the botton, I don't remember). You should not apply a strong force, and be very careful when it is almost done, as the cables connecting the battery and speaker are very short and could e damaged if the case opens suddenly.
Be gente and you'll be done.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: TomTom Home

I had a similar problem when trying to update my dad’s old TomTom Go300. I bought a new map and downloaded TomTom Home 2 (as instructed on the website) but found that the Go300 was recognised by the computer it wasn't recognised by TomTom's own Home 2 software.

To cut a long story short I uninstalled Home 2 and downloaded Home 1 (from http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17 Home 1 is the one on the right, listed as being the version of Home you use for Navigator 6).

Then when I switched the Go300 on it was recognised by Home1 - although the new map I had bought wasn't listed as being available for download.

However, I updated the Go300 with the available listed free updates, then switched it off.

Downloaded Home 2 again and switched the Go300 on - this time it was recognised by the computer and the new map I had bought was available to download.

So far so good - the only problem was the the postcode search facility was not the same as it had been - I could now only search the first 4 digits of the postcode. There is a fix for this on the tomtom website:

http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&query=postcode&FID=9852

which I followed and which worked.

Hope this may be of some use to someone! It took me hours to figure it all out. But it's up and running now.

I read and read and re-read the TomTom website looking for any info that would help but came up with nothing. A few hours later and the air thick with torrents of language I didn’t think I was capable of I discovered that I needed to download Home1 first and let the Go300 connect to the computer via Home1 before it would be recognisable by Home2. Okay…
On the website, though, Home1 is listed as being the version you use if you have TomTom Navigator 6. It’s not even called ‘Home 1′. Confusing eh? Anyway, I downloaded that and from there found that I could get my new map onto my Go300. Once the map and other updates were installed and I had switched the thing off I then found that Home2 recognised it at last.
That had to be one of the most ridiculously long-winded things I’ve had to do on a computer, mainly because TomTom’s confusing advice on their website made the whole process so damn difficult. Perhaps they hoped I’d give up and buy a new one? Tsk.

SOURCE: TomTom XL Text-to-Speech not working

I had the same problem, before realising that text-to-speech on the TomTom XL on'y works if you've selected a *computer-generated" voice - and not all of them are. "Samantha/English-US" is computer-generated, for example, but "Tim/English-UK" is not (it's a recorded voice). When choosing from options in the "Change voice" menu option, check the top-right hand corner to tell whether a voice is computer-generated or not. Hope this helps.

Certificate error on web site.

This is basically an Internet Explorer 7 Website’s Security Certificate problem! You have to self-sign the certificate on the client computer or add the URL manually to the trusted security zone. When you are trying to access a secure web page, you receive the warning message:

"There is a problem with this website's security certificate. The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority."

Or

"Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept data you send to the server."

To fix this issue, you can follow either of the methods:

meth2.jpg
ie%281%29.jpg

Method 1:

You have to install the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 (Windows SBS) self-signed certificate on the client computer. To do this, follow these steps:

  • In Windows Internet Explorer 7, click Continue to this website (not recommended).
A red Address Bar and a certificate warning appear.
  • Click Certificate Error button to open the information window.
  • Click View Certificates > click Install Certificate.
  • Click Yes, to install the certificate, when warning message appear.

Note: For Windows Vista users, right click on Internet Explorer icon. Select Run as Administrator.

Method 2:

Add the URL to the Trusted Sites security zone:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Go to Menu bar > Tools > Internet Options.

    tool.jpg
  • Click Security > Trusted sites > Sites

    sec.jpg
  • Type the URL in the Add this website to the zone text box > uncheck Require server verification >Add > click OK

    trust.jpg
  • Click OK to exit.

Now you have added the URL successfully into the Trusted Sites security zone.

On installing tomtom home on my computer this message comes up homeruntime.exefailed with error 0 process failed to start up correctly

These instructions worked for me with WinXP SP3, how they fair for Vista I can't say.

To solve any issues with Connecting to TomTom Home and/or using the 'Operate my device' feature of TomTom, please do the following:-

STEP 1 Uninstall TomTom Home

- Disconnect your TomTom from your computer.
- Click on Start -> All Programs -> TomTom
- Uninstall All versions of TomTom Home from your PC
- Once Uninstalled, Open 'My Computer'.
- Right click on your 'C' drive and click on 'Search'
- in the boxes below where it says 'All or part of the filename', type 'Navcore' in this box.
- Further down, click on 'More Advanced Options'
- Make sure 'Search System Folders' and 'Search Hidden Files and Folders' are ticked.
- Click on Search

When the search has completed. Delete any files or folders that are found in the search results. Once complete, we need to remove any items on your PC that refer to TomTom, to do this:-

- Open 'My Computer'.
- Right click on your 'C' drive and click on 'Search'
- in the boxes below where it says 'All or part of the filename', type 'TomTom' in this box.
- Further down, click on 'More Advanced Options'
- Make sure 'Search System Folders' and 'Search Hidden Files and Folders' are ticked.
- Click on Search

When the search has completed. Delete any files or folders that are found in the search results.

Once done, reboot your PC.

STEP 2 Perform Some PC Maintenance.

- Empty your Recycle Bin, on your desktop, right click on the recycle bin and choose 'Empty'.

Note: I chose not to perform the Disk Cleanup and Defragmentation, I didn't think that it was a necessary step, but perhaps I am wrong.

- Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools
- Do a Disk Cleanup, in the disk cleanup options, make sure all the items are ticked. You will see this after it has analyzed your PC.
- Once finished, do a Disk Defragment.
- When the Disk Defragment has finished, please reboot your computer.

These procedures can take a while to complete, depending on the status of your computer.

STEP 3 Install TomTom Home 2.3

- Click on http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/app...2winlatest.exe
- You will now be prompted to download and install TomTom Home 2.3
- Once Installed, please reboot your PC

STEP 4 Open TomTom Home

- Open TomTom Home without the device connected. Do you get any error messages at this point?
- Connect your TomTom to one of the USB ports on the back of your PC
- Switch the TomTom on. Do you get any error messages at this point when you open TomTom Home?

--------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully these steps should resolve a majority of the issues encountered when starting TomTom Home and getting the "HOMEruntime.exe failed with error 0: Process failed to start up correctly" error message.

Regards.
