The destination in the GPS is programmed, however it selects an unknown destination and the satellite continues to search. It does not speak or show movement when traveling. Very frustrating. This is a brand new Rav 4, 2012 Toyota for which we have 6 months and still not properly navigating. I put in one address and it will use a different house number on the same street. Please help.

Greetings . . . I turned my Garmin 2720 on in my

Take the GPS out of your van to an area with a clear view of the sky. Power the unit on. If the unit is working correctly, then it will acquire the satellites. You can then put the unit back in your van. You may have to reposition the unit to keep the satellite lock.

If the unit does not acquire satellites outside, then the unit is defective.

Gps-simulator

The GPS Simulator mode is a mode where the unit will not look for satellites. instead, it will show simulated satellite receive signals on the satellite reception screen and allow you to simulate driving to the destination that you programmed into it. You will be able to see each turn just as if you were really driving on the road.

My nuvi 200 is 3 years old suddenly speaking in what sounds like German instead of English. I have tried to reset but no joy

1. To select an English speaking voice
  • Press TOOLS (The spanner icon on the bottom right corner of the page showing WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
  • Press SETTINGS (Top left icon)
  • Press LANGUAGE
This brings you to a screen with 3 items; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
Press VOICE and select an English speaking voice.

2. Since it changed itself it's possible that the English voice file is corrupted and may need to be replaced. To replace a voice file you first need to;

  • Download and install the latest version of WEBUPDATER to your computer from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
  • Connect your satnav to the computer and run the Webupdater program
  • Webupdater will search for updates to your satnav operating system. Accept any updates it finds and they will be installed. When the update is complete it will offer you optional updates including VOICE FILES.
  • Tick the English speaking voice files you want to select them and click "continue" or "next" They will be downloaded to your satnav.
  • You then need to repeat the process described in paragraph 1 above to select an English speaking voice.

Whenever i put in the address from which i am leaving to go to a destination it wont do anything and also in the car it wont show me the road that i am on

When the GPS device starts up ( when you power it on ), it will take several seconds, up to a couple of minutes to locate the satellites, before it will show where you are (on the road / map). So, you simply have to enter the destination address, to get directions from where you are, to the destination.
It is easier for the GPS device to locate the satellites if the GPS / you are not under (some) cover, e.g. indoor garage, under ground parking, under trees, etc. Some times you'll just have to wait a little longer. [But you can enter the destination addresses even before it locates your position ]

How do i get the device to speak

Once you set up the destination and the gps position is acquired (that can take a while, and you should be outside or in your car) it should guide you while moving before every turn (depending on the settings you have made upon first boot - voice selection/guidance selection and guidance mode pedestrian/car/truck....)

No gps working

I've got a HTC Touch pro or AT & T Fuze. The GPS worked fine for a few months but lately has stopped working. It was always slow to find the satellites compared to the GPS in my car. I've tried a few programs that were using the GPS tried changing the settings and ports and resetting it, but still doesn't work. I've backed it up was thinking of a hard reset incase it's a software error or else the GPS itself is broken on the device. GPS tuner can search for the GPS and it just searches for ages and doesn't find anything and used to find it almost instantly.

My Garmin has stopped finding destinations - just says "Searching for Satellite)+

I had the same problem with my Nuvi 310. Found a solution in here that works. Here's a copy of the advice.....note you will need to get in the car and set it for a destination and go. 5-10 mins later the Garmin Nuvi will lose the satellites, but don't adjust it it, leave it on and keep going. Eventually after about an hour it will right itself, pick up the satellites and evrything will be back to normal.

Here's the advice:

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching!
The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me:
1) open the GPS antenna
2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on
3) enter maintenace mode
4) select diagnostics
5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data
6) restart unit the usual way

My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.

How to program a destination

In general, once you key in an address and then select a route, the name/route will be saved in "recent destinations." If you want to use that destination, just select it. If you want to add it to "Favorites", then select "Add Favorite" and all your recent destinations will appear. Select the one you want and rename it: E.g., instead of "220 W. Walnut St." rename it "Grandma's House" and it is set.
