Just because it irritates me when people act like know-it-alls. . . this IS a problem, "yes", I have RTM as well as tried every other idea I've come across on the internet. Yes, I have repeated it. No, it still doesn't work. Yes, in googling further and actually reading through the threads there are many people having this problem. No, there is not a good answer other than buy a new receiver if it's out of warranty.
contact the maker, all units are complex. like this, only the maker knows it all, its note like in the olden days, with simple analog system, not in the least. these comments are to tell the avg. user to , yes, RTM , and yes, join a Pioneer forum and yes, call the maker and ask for help. if that dont work, and it seems ,not then buy the service manual for this unit, that will work, DId you do the firmware upgrade ,idea? so far on the net, No FSM, its a firmware error, (bad flash) , i dont have the error list, i dont know what you have connected up to the reciever , besides speakers,. nor if the error is present with all things disonnected. see next link, log in and ask the REAL knowitalls.
to flash new code, it takes a memory stick USB.
Member since: April 15th, 2012 Points: 40 120 points 1) You will need an embty usb memory stick 2) Go to the Pioneer web site in your country (i am in Australia, so it's www.pioneer.com.au) 3) Click Support 4) Click software & firmware downloads 5) In product category click Home Entertainment 6) In the Product Type click Amps / Receiver 7) Click on your model Below the search will be a download available for your model, from there you download the zip file, then transfer it to your usb stick, (instructions are set out for you) THE DOWNLOAD CANNOT BE DONE VIA THE RECEIVER, IT HAS TO BE DONE VIA A USB STICK Your receiver will go back to normal once the update is complete!
7th google hit, see post 13....
btw, this receiver, does protect its self, if speaker wires are shorted, etc. disconnect them, do the factory reset , or the firware upload, and to the above, #13, ask receiver what E22 means, 1) AMP ERR 2) OVERLOAD 3) BOAD ERR
tell more get more.
in the olden days, the unit would let the smoke out, l there is a service manual and it does explain all this, if the book is hard to understand, get a service tech in the loop...or just let him fix it..
the receiver is smart, it will not even attempt to drive , missing speakers , a bad idea if it did, like in the olden days. . i have lots of ideas on how to solve this.
btw 99, the unit must be cooled well, lots of fresh air on bottom and , exits top, if not it will fail... all amps make heat , and this ones no exception. I modified, my fancy cabinets to do that. zero fans, using convection methods.
ill get the manual for mine, and post back. what i find, later.
a real service manual.
i found the factory manual, in 5min. free. i have the real FSM now. in hands, the PDF, ill read it now.
do you want the manual, on 34 is the service mode steps. the service mode even logs the faillures by CLASS, and can see the whole history, i can send the book 2 ways, a link to random site that has it or directly on request. (ask) below is a random link, showing the 1 book that has the answers. if you need more info, ask. can peel the onion.
it works more like a new, car, the check engine light glows and you scan it, in this case, service, mode is entered and bingo, the true fault, do so and post the true fault code. my wild guess is shorted speakers, or overheated.

Guys, all you need to do is download the "firmware" file from pioneer website and upload it to a usb, stick it in the USB port of your amp, then "update via USB" -voila. Good luck all! God Bless
Please stop posting this answer on all ue22 posts, as this will not fix anything
This didnt work for me. I cant even select system update in the other settings menu. It is light gray and unselectable. The only other option like that is network information on main menu. I dont have the wireless dongle, but I cant even connect to my network with an ethernet. My network is not recognizing the receiver. I have checked the ethernet cables, I switched out the router, and still nothing. I tried updating the firmware or checking to see what version it was and I cant even get to it. I have the menu set to expert settings.

Did you RTM? on the Pioneer? or join a Pioneer forum and ask?
here, is the 2nd google hit, amazing , no?
says, update failed. repeat it.
its in the manual. RTM.
I'm with Chris. Why bother posting if you are going to reply like this. This is a serious enough issue that there are thousands of google hits on the problem, and Pioneer has backed away from the issue and is now exiting the home theatre market entirely. Once the UE22 error comes up, it seems to signify the HDMI board has failed, which basically means the receiver is now garbage. It's a difficult desicion to throw away a thousand dollar piece of high end AV equipment when every now and then, you see a posting that says a specific technique ahs worked. So the guy is trying to make sure he has exhausted all possibilities. I speak form experience as I have gone through this issue on the Pioneer Elite VSX 51 and am now a happy Yamaha customer. I happened upon this site as I was looking to see if the problem has ever been resolved or continues to persist, and I found a laughable moderator who spends his time giving 12296 answers so he can pretend he has a purpose on this earth.
why are you using the internet to guess at problems that does no work, only a technician can state facts, he does his tests and what is bad is by random change. (assumes the customer didnt block vent or cooling if yes, its his fault) so i got 50 years as an Electronics tech. why are all anwers on the Internet, im retired, and help mostly the most needy. that is my job now. when cant sleep or bored, why is that a problem , helping others, So why not take it to a real shop with real test equipment, and diagnosis it with the factory service, manuals (ever seen one. i guess not) so we do that then look up that code to find what parts are failing and then test those (per our vast training) , if that is too costly then ,like most consumer junk , you just throw it away and stop crying. If you had a $1000 camera would you throw that away? I'd not. Get it service, like the rest of man kinds. Or get the book and ask questions about steps you do not understand. So, get it fixed, DIY, or throw it away. your choice.
I can not help the helpless, only the motivated, that is a fact.
