I would suspect the water inlet valve as being the problem,if it drains the water and spins the lid switch is going to be good.The thing exclusive to rinse cycles is that they only fill with cold water,and that is what i suspect the problem being is that it's not filling with cold water on the rinse cycle because of a bad water inlet valve.
If you tried a different cycle and it worked this means that the timer is probably bad on the main cycle that you use. If the machine does not spin on all cycles, then please check out the LID SWITCH.
it sounds like your water inlet valve is bad,change it,also try your washer on another water level like small load or med load and see if it cuts off,it might also be your water level switch,hope this helps,thanks-mike
