I just bought a bass boat with a Johnson 115 fast strike motor on it. I'm looking for the best service/owners manual for it. My title says it was built in 95, but the mdl/prog year says 96. Any help with which it is and a recomended manual. most manuals seem to break between 95 & 96.

Change lower unit lube, use fresh gas mixture with added Seafoam. Run as before, but longer. You can download manual from the web. Has P.M. instructions.
remove and have the carburettor serviced as what that indicates is blockages in the main jets and circuits
could be corrosion from, or water in the fuel
Good Morning Robert Looney,
The Carburetors Require Service Would Be My Suggestion
If It Goes Well With Choke You Are Forcing More Fuel Into The Intake So The Normal Fuel Delivery Must Be Blocked Up Some Where.

Some models charged through a Magneto, but see if you can find the 1979 Year Manual. I have a 1979 engine myself in a 15Hp which is a Manual start(no battery) and I have a Sailhorse Johnson 8HP which has an electric port and is Manual start. I believe the 8HP would charge a battery as on a Sailboat the running lights needed power. The 8HP could power the lights directly.
Johnson offered options for electric start in lower HP units and options in charging systems to contain costs. You might get a better answer from someone by listing the HP of your motor. I was the original owner of the 15HP and remember the 9.9HP and others in the same Sales brochure. The Sales brochure may advertise more about the charging systems.
Hello vcd9, When You Turn The Key On ,Press It In To Activate The Choke Solenoid And Then Crank At The Same Time,This Should Solve Your Problem, If All Is Fine With The Engine. Cheers Gordon
