Odor coming from overflow holes in pedestel sink

Your sink drain is partially clogged below the overflow drain so suds laden water is backing part way up that tube discharging suds out the overflow opening.If you have a push-pull built in stopper that's probably holding up a clog just below. Clear the clog, soap suds act like they should.

That drain sounds about normal, Dave. What sink are you trying to attach it to? That sink may require a special drain.

The square holes are for the overflow, which takes water in at the overflow port (usually under the front edge of the sink) and routes that water under the bowl - the bowl usually has two layers - to the square holes, where it turns & goes down the pipe. If your sink has no overflow, there won't be a second layer for the bowl, and that drain won't work.

If you mean the little weep hole on the tap is leaking? If so, then the drain line connected to the sink drain is clogged. Remove this line and see if it's draining free.(have bucket ready) Most likely it will be where it enters your sink drain at that fitting, clogged with sink drain materials.

The sink has scored holes across the back and comes with specific directions on how to pop out the extra holes. The sink comes with one hole already available. Follow the directions. Great sinks.

it's supposed to drain out the same drain pipe your sink uses. If it is overflowing into your sink, then your drain pipe is clogged. Your sink probably overflows when your disposal runs too, right? Unclog your pipe and you're good to go.

check for a bad float. a float with a hole in it will 'sink' and thus, not turn the gas supply off when required.

If you turned off the shutoff valve then it's defective. Valves in washer also must leak as both sets of valves have to open to let water into machine. Not sure what might be causing odor.

a waste with a over flow does not work well with a vessel sink because the sink is to thin

Put plumbers putty around the flange that will be in contact with the sink. When you put it into the hole, try to line up the overflow as good as possible. The nut that goes onto the bottom (tailpiece) has a rubber gasket that will go between the nut & the sink. Adding some plumbers putty here won't hurt. After all is secure, just remove the putty that squeezed out from tightening.

there really should be a trap with a bend in it on the system at somepoint to prevent odour ingress?
