Rockford sub squeaks

I have two RF P2D412's running off a RF P500-2 amp...
everythings been working great, aside from the amp over heating after 4 hours of high volume play (understandable, lol) i broke them in for what i thought was properly, but ive noticed a high pitched noise, like a squeak on the one sub when it hits (cant hear it in the car just outside when the trunk is popped), does it for almost all tones of bass... it does it on low and high volume... both subs work great and hit hard... and im just trying to figure out what it is and if its harmful....

it is a sealed enclosure and they are together...

i thought about taking them out and such, but was worried with the particle board bout having too many holes, especially since they are my second set of subs in the box. looks like i dont have much of a choice though, but thanks for the advice!

if it is the sub, and the voice coil is acting up, what caused it? if the other one doesnt do it... manufacturer problem?

Hello markwasicki,

You did not specify what type of enclosure the subs are in or if they share the same airspace. But the sound you describe sounds suspiciously like the enclosure is at fault and not the sub itself.

Remove and reverse the subs in the box and test for the noise again. If the noise is still produced on the same side of the box, it's the enclosure. If the noise follows the sub, then you have a problem with that sub.

If the box is making the noise, and it's a ported box, you probably have "port noise". If it's a sealed enclosure, you could have either an air leak or flexing noise. In either case, repair the enclosure or put the subs in a new one. If the sub itself is making the noise, there probably isn't much you can do. Most likely some part of the voice coil assembly is touching where it should not.

Hope this helps.

    Hello again,

When you remove the subs, take care with the screws and use the same holes in the MDF. I have removed and reinstalled subs without stripping out the wood many times. Just don't overtighten, and please don't put any NEW holes in the enclosure.

If you do find a defective voice coil, yes, you can probably chalk it up to a defect in manufacturing. If a sub is not overpowered, the voice coils should not fail. But too much power can sometimes push a coil beyond it's intended maximum travel causing damage and problems with the sound.

Rockford Fosgate P3002 stopped working

push down and up on your subs and see if they make a starching noise, if they do then they are blown. take a test light to the amp, on the power and the remote and see if it lights up. if it does then turn the amp down and with a small speaker plug it in to the speaker outs on the amp and see if it plays if not then your amp is bad.

I have two 4ohm dual kicker compr 12s in a ported box, wired to a Rockford Fosgate 10001x BD amp at 1ohm,with 4 gauge ground and power wire. I'm also using 12 gauge speaker wire, and my HU is a JVC AVC-60...

If by "whiting" you mean "whistling" then yes, you probably have a ground issue and you are picking up alternator noise. Or you might have a very noisy alternator due to failing diodes, but the most likely scenario is a grounding issue. If you unplug the signal input to the amplifier is the noise still present? If so, the grounding issue is likely with the amp itself. If not, then the grounding issue could be with the head unit or quality of RCA cables between the HU and the amp. Do you have a crossover on the Rockford amp for the subs?

I'm also curious why you are running these subs at 1ohm. Are they dual voice coil subs and each voice coil is 4 ohms? If so, why not be a bit gentler on the amp and run the sub voice coils in series, then parallel the two subs to the amp to run 4 ohms? Running at 1 ohm is likely going to generate a lot of heat from that Rockford amp which will likely decrease its service life.

Hey, I got a rf power 750s. I have a jvc kd-hdr20 h.u., and a kicker 07cvr154 sub. Install went smooth, but when I turned my car on I got power in @ the amp and a lil red light at rf badge, but nothing...

Check the RCA plugs where they mount to the board and make sure the shield ground pins are not broken. If in tact a regulator might have failed not allowing power to the op-amps.

Which subs to use with the rf punch 8002

You should get the dual 4 ohm version of subs and wire them both in parrallel and series for a 4 ohm load to that amp, Bridge the amp and your subs should be seeing about 960 watts true rms.

Wiring for 2 subs for max performance

This amp is rated at 500 watts into a 4 ohm load bridged mono or 250 watts x 2 into 2 ohm load stereo. Do not go below that impedance in either case. The amp was meant to dissipate a certain amount of power, driving it to hard will lead to damage. Your speakers look like they are dual voice coils @ 4 ohms each. To get the max power while still saving your subs would be to parallel the voice coils on each woofer then run them in stereo with your amp. Stereo 2 ohm is 250 watts per speaker.

Need amp for 2 15 l7 4 0hm

Hello jasonjohnson,

There would be more amp choices if those L7's had the 2ohm voice coils, allowing you to series the coils and then run the subs parallel to the amp for a 2ohm load. As it is, you'll probably have to run them as either 1ohm and have limited amp choices, or as 4ohm and settle for a little less power.

An absolutely excellent amp to use at 4ohm would be the Alpine MRP-M1000. At Crutchfield this one is on sale for $347. For more power, and an amp stable to 1ohm, I would recommend the Rockford-Fosgate Punch 1000-1bd, a "factory refurbished" model is available at Crutchfield for $349.99. It's $700 new.

Both of these amps have adequate power for 2 L7's, but the RF will definitely be the better power choice. Both are also well respected names in mobile audio and the prices are reasonable.

If you have deeper pockets and want to push the subs really hard, a Rockford-Fosgate Punch 1500-1bd will put a full 750 watts RMS to each sub.

Hope this helps.

Rockford Fosgate 800a2 To 2 SVC 2ohm subs

Ok.. Bridge the two sub into 4ohm than bridge to amp.

So. this how it goes.

sub1 + -
to      | |
sub2 - +
=      4ohm

           From Sub
                Two
            -          +
            |           |
amp (L) - + (R)- +

This will use the full potiental of RF 800a2 amp. I believe it like 1153 watts max out.
