I have an HP PSC 2510 All in one printer that I've owned about 3 years. Currently when you power it on it makes a crazy repeated noise like something is grinding internally for about 2-3 minutes. Then that will stop and the printer will display an hourglass "wait" picture and stay in that mode indefinitely. Plugging in the USB cable to a PC or laptop does nothing, it just stays in that mode. Tried turning it on and off, same thing happens. I'm ready to throw it out the window. Any advice?
It sounds to me like the printer needs repaired/replaced as the gears which drive the printer cartridges' belt are no longer aligning correctly. At today's prices, I strongly suggest just replacing the printer as you can get a new one pretty cheap now. Good luck!
Clean the rod that the light bar travels back and forth on then "lightly" lubricate it by wiping it with a good grade oil like 3in one or something similar. Obviously you will have to remove the top cover and glass but it's not that difficult.
