Canon S5 IS - problem with the LCD monitor in the closed posit

The camera appears to function ok when the LCD monitor is wide open but when it is moved to about 1cm from the closed position buttons such as FUNC, MENU, & DISP etc and the zoom become inoperable; the mode dial goes out of synch with the display which changes from "auto" to "video".
In other words the camera can not be fully operated with the LCD monitor in the closed position.

You camera needs a professional diagnostics and repair service.

The LCD screen assembly has two different position switches, may be one or both are failing (flas contacts internally).

Other possible reason for it is a false contact in the cables and connectors that attach the LCD screen to the main board.

Bottom line, if you have experience and skills in fixing electronic devices, you may want to fix it yourself. otherwise, I do recommend you to have a camera repair technician in fixing your camera.

Canon Powershot S5 IS. Changed to Windows Vista

I have a Canon Powershot S5 IS. Does anyone know the replacement part number of the LCD Monitor?

I am not sure if the the Screens on E-Bay are the right ones. The placement of the 'ribbon' has me second guessing the accuracy of the items for sale.

Black LCD screen on canon powershot S5 IS

A stuck shutter is a common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

Canon digital G5 LCD monitor problem

Very simple fix. Open the covering on the lcd screen and also remove covering that is between the camera and screen. There is a wire that goes from the lcd screen to the camera. It came out from all the twisting of screen when opening and closing. Carefully put that back in. Google keywords like "lcd g5 fix" etc. for more detailed description.

I can't get my Powershot S5 to go into Super Macro mode - Help!

Hi,
There seem to be two stipulations for getting into super macro mode,
First you must be in scn ("A" or "S" mode's only) and "movie", "P", "TV", "AV" or "M" modes only.
Secondly the zoom Lens must be all the way out.. set at the widest angle.

Best of luck

Powershot S1 IS trouble shooting in images of lcd monitor

Try playing back pictures you know were captured properly ( either with another properly working camera or with your camera before the problem with quality has appeared ). If the image is ok in playback but 'noisy' in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty /on its way out. Ask Canon if they repair CCD faults on this model free of charge.

Flash Problem

Using the flash When shooting with the built-in flash, open the flash manually. The flash does not pop-up automatically. The flash will not fire if it is closed. The flash will work when it is opened up. When the flash is open, the (flash on) icon or (automatic) icon will appear on the LCD monitor (or in the viewfinder). Flash on: The flash fires in every shot. Automatic: The flash fires automatically. Press the (flash) button to switch between the and flash modes while the flash is open. In some shooting modes, the flash mode does not switch even if the flash button is pressed. Please refer to Functions Available in Each Shooting Mode in the Camera User Guide provided with your camera for more information. When you are not using the flash, close it manually. When the flash is closed, the flash will not fire and the icon appears on the LCD monitor (or in the viewfinder).
