How to put a air condition belt a 1997 geo metro

there should be an adjustment bolt somewhere on the bracket. turn it one way it pulls the AC pulley towards the other pulley put the belt on then turn the adjustment bolt the opposite way and it will push it away and tighten the belt. you only want about an 1/8 inch play in the belt so the tighter the better

I am trying to replace the fan belt on my 1988 Bronco II. What do I do to replace it with a new one. THe old belt broke off.

Hi, there are pivots bolts on the alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor (if you have one). Depending on which belt is broken, you may have to remove outer belts first to install inner belts. To remove a belt, you have to loosen the pivot bolt on the accessory as well as the adjusting bolt. The accessory will then pivot to loosen the belt. To install a belt, again loosen the pivot and adjusting bolt, install the belt, and then carefully use a pry bar to pivot the accessory to tighten the belt. While holding the belt tight, tighten the adjuster screw and then the pivot bolt.
Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

A lower bolt on the primary cover broke,so i removed the shifter and foot peg bracket, then removed all of the bolts from primary cover after draining primary fluid. The primary cover still doesnt seem to...

You need to remove the derby cover from the primary that goes over the clutch adjuster. Remove the sping and the locking nut. Turn the adjuster screw clockwise while gently pulling the cover off. The cover should come off then.

Good Luck

I just put the alternator belt on my 02 Lancer and was smart enough to get the tightening sequence wrong and broke the long tensioner bolt... I was lucky to get it tight first but how do I find that bolt.

To work on the alternator belt first, take off the negative battery cable so you do not blow an expensive fuse on the positive battery cable clamp or a block fuse under the hood . Facing the back of the car , reach UNDER the alternator and loosen the bolt on the bottom right side, now loosen the bolt on the adjuster block on top, you can now turn the adjuster bolt and move the alternator to change the belt. Mitsubishi has used the same bolt on almost every alternator since day one. It should be available at any salvage yard with a Mitsubishi car from 1979 on and is probably in stock at any Mitsubishi dealer for just a couple of dollars.

I have a 99 mitsubishi diamante and i broke the power steering belt how do i put it back on

Looking at the front of the engine you should see, from left to right, the PS pump, a tensioner pulley, and the crank pulley.

Loosen the 14mm fixing bolt and the 14mm fixing nut on the tensioner pulley.
On the bottom there is a 14mm adjuster bolt, loosen it to slide the pulley downward. It helps to have a swivel socket to access this bolt.
The belt goes around the outside of all 3 pulleys.

The alternator belt will need to be loosened to get the PS belt on behind it.
Between the Crankshaft pulley and the ac compressor pulley you will see another adjuster. Simply loosen the 14mm nut on the center of the pulley, then loosen the 14mm adjuster bolt sticking out the bottom to slacken the belt enough to slip it off.

Use the same adjusters to tension the belts once installed, and tighten down all fixing nuts/fixing bolts.

Be advised: If you broke your PS belt, you should verify your pump and tensioner pulley are in good shape and spin freely, and were not the cause of belt failure before putting on a new belt!

How do you adjust tension for drive belt

first you need to figure out if you have an automatic tensioner or an adjustable one. so look at the pullies which ones are not accesories (ie not an alternator pully, power steering.) some pullies will just be on there own not driving anything. is this pully connected to something like this O>o <--this end is the pully.
pully mounting bolt ^ ^arm with hole for rachet
or does it look like the pully is attached to a threaded pole.

the auto adjuster need a rachet to pull back on it (because it's spring loaded) while you install the new belt.

the other need the nut on the pully loosened and the threaded pole loosened will move the pully removing tension from the belt (opposite will tension the new belt).

tighten belt until you can only twist it in half.
