Trackball logitech For some reason, I can no longer click and drag with my Logictech Trackman Wheel T-BB18. Like when deleting a file, I used to just click and drag it.. now I can't. Also when click and highlighting to copy and paste.. it will highlight a few words.. then it will un-highlight it.. (pain in the butt) I have the latest driver update 5.60.66.0.. how do I fix this?

I use a Optical Trackman from Logitech and have foound that the contacts on the left click get dirty and won't work right or work partially. Especially frustrating when trying to highlight or shoot on FPS games. I took mine apart, just the housing , the electrics stay , and cleaned as well as I could , then blow it out with canned air. Got mine working again. My guess would be dirt or that button is worn out. Logitech has discontinued many of the Trackballs so a replacement may not be possible

Exactly right - and thanks. There was a buildup of junk on the actual switch button inside. I cotton swab and alcohol took care of it

BTW, most of the screws are hidden behind the rubber feet, and one was under the label in the battery compartment.

SOURCE: My Logitech cordless mouse MX 700 is being eratic.

There could be a sensitivity problem with the mouse before installing new drivers and software you can try going to the mouse settings to see if there's an adjutment problem,

  • click on the mouse icon in the control panel
  • a mouse properties box will pop up
  • at the top of the box click hardware
  • look to see if your mouse is labeled under devices.
  • highlight your mouse it should say, this device is working properly.
  • you might want to go through all the mouse settings first to make sure there set right, pointer's activities, pointer option's, ect, if your still having problem's here's a link with the software and driver download for your mouse,http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/398/&cl=us,en?prodcrid=398
also replace the battery if it's low, good luck.

Sounds to be a hardware problem. especially if it would move by itself at times, now not at all.

Windows is detecting it correctly, right?

If so, then i would say time for a new one.

My trackball is okay with large, sweeping

Background:
I have a total of six Logitech trackballs; four of the newer Trackman Wheel model, and two of the older Trackman Marble+ model (as pictured). All but one of them suffer from the problem described by dave48. The fifth, for some mysterious reason, never has this problem.

Solution:
The solution I came up with is to light a candle and let melted wax drip onto the red thumb ball. A single drip falling on three random places on the ball usually does the trick. (The wax should dry as soon as it contacts the ball.) I then start moving the ball around to work the wax onto the teflon points. The movement will be VERY rough initially, but will gradually smooth out the more you use it. Sometimes the initial three drips aren't enough and the ball starts getting rough again, so I will melt three more drips of wax onto the ball and work them in as well.

Conclusion:
This really seems to do the trick and for some reason the points don't seem to need cleaning as often either. You do have to be careful not to remove the wax when performing a cleaning, however. But if you do happen to remove some wax all you need to do is melt some additional wax onto the ball and work it in like before.

Left click button causes a double click on the screen. have cleaned the entire trackman both inside and out. still multi-clicks on the left switch. can't click and drag without losing item or causing it to...

OK! That is a problem from how the mouse is configure on your pc itself. You should go to device manager and check the settings on of the trackball. In there you will see what each button is used for that way you can change to the way u want.

Involuntary right click

Assuming this happens when you roll the trackball and don't click right? Seen this so many times.
Could be caused by:

IF Software Related:
Virus or Spyware taking focus of screen and cursor
Keylogger taking control of cursor
Other software running in background that is controlling screen refresh and cursor control.
Confused Drivers within Windows.

IF Hardware Related:
Sticky Right Click button

Fix: Process of elimination unfortunately. Remove all mouse hardware from Device Manager and setpoint. Start from scratch. (FYI: mouse won't work right at first reboot.. give it a sec to reinstall windows drivers operation will return to normal)

Best wishes
