Won't be an inexpensive fix...good luck
SOURCE: My plotter is saying that
The printer is having a problem finding the Scan-axis encoder reading.
Start by upgrading the firmware. Go to www.hp.com. Go to Support and Drivers.
Enter your printer model, select your operating system, select firmware.
Follow the directions.
If that doesn't fix the problem, clean the encoder strip( the flat metal strip that runs the length of the printer).
If the problem persists, someone trained on DesignJets is going to have to look at it.
Hopefully, the firmware will fix the problem.

HP does not specify what that error means. It says to contact HP Support. If the unit is in warranty, Hp will repair it, free of charge.

SOURCE: Hi, In the office we
It is a PPS system failure(Pen to Paper Space).
Turn power off and pull the plug from the wall outlet.
Reconnect and power on.
In the Diagnostics perform the Scan Axis PRS diag test.
If it still fails a tech is going to have to look at it.
Sorry, but this may need parts replaced. A print mech board or the PPS solenoid.

79.04 is a generic software error.
Can be caused by bad firmware.
Can be caused by bad job.
Try sending a different job to the printer.
If that works and the original job fails again, something is wrong with it.
If the new job fails, power off and on again. Resend the job. If it fails again...go to
www.hp.com. Select support and drivers. Upload the latest firmware.
This one isn't easy. Good Luck
